If you have all your designs saved in 1 folder or 1 directory, (In my case I have a folder "embroidery" and under that I have different categories or files), click on the name of that folder, then click "file", then click "properties". It will give you the # of sub files (mine is 246) and # of files - mine is 3 927. The # of files is the # of designs you have! Now lets see who's got the most!

In my "organized" folder
843,879 files
40,216 folders
In my Download folder that I haven't sorted, named and moved the designs yet
6,883 files
438 folders
>* note organized is a very loose term for this folder as before I started the download folder the organized folder was a catch all for everything from freebies to memberships

I promise myself over and over to stop downloading but just cannot help myself. I think we are all in the same boat with that one. Ja Suzette ek is 'n regte Freebie junkie. Annatjie

Unfortunately that dosen't work for me since I have all my designs on an external hard drive with other files. I have a folder named embroidery designs with subfolders but when I clicked on properties it checked the whold hard drive even though I click on my embroidery designs folder only. I have 80,352 designs most of which are designs

I said I did not want to know, but curiosity got the better of me. I only looked at what's at my hard drive, not on my external HD, which contains easily 4 times as much. Guess what: 37.510 designs - far more than I expected. Then I looked at a separate folder containing designs I digitised - I was amazed: 1957.

I had a good time reading all the comments and then wondered how many I have. I have 2,030 folders and 28,944 files and that is without the 5 folders full of 31,??? something I downloaded some time ago, which I think I must delete without trying to sort out what is in there. I have only been collecting for two years and only use about 2 a week sooooo, when will I use it all and I still collect????

Babsie, so we'll take the 28944 then, seeing that you are going to delete the rest - is that Ok. If you want to appeal, please contact Ms Veronika!

I passed the 100,000 & I'm going to leave it at that. Why am I doing all this? I'm really glad for the most part my daughters have purchased most of these plus my membership in cute. I'd hate to think I spent all that much.

Okay I just looked I have over 100 files, with sub-files, like I have a flower file, then it is sub-files with Small designs, then that is sub-file to kinds of flowers.
I love Roses so if have a rose file , then it is sub-file by size of design, rosebuds have it's own file, then I have roses that are cross stiche, red has it's file, yellow ect.
Then the Christmas file, is in sub's Angels, wreaths, birds, tree, people, sayings, santa,(which has 10 differant subs, it goes on and on.

then I have my cutes file and it is sit up like the site. Then I have the Emboridery Libarary designs, and this goes on and on. Get the picture.

When I first started out I printed very design I got and put it in a note book, but after 15 3inch note books I quit. used to much ink.
I really have know idea just how many designs i have to date. I know I am going to have to delete or clear out my computor space. I am running out of room in my hard drive to save them all,

My the way I download everything every six months to CD just in case I computor goes down on me..

If you ever want to employ someone to do your filing, count me out - I will get as dizzy (drunk) as James in "Dinner for one", especially having to file a flower! However, thanks for explaining your system, maybe someone will want to copy you! Suzette

I had a good laugh a few days ago when I read the posts regarding cuties collecting materials. Never thought that the same applies to designs. I have a external hard drive with approx 60 gig of embroidery designs. Would rather not count. Seems the answer for all women remains to be enough is never enough. I have tried to explain to my husband that I really can't help it if I like beautifull stuff. When we moved in December he was also upset because I had 5 Lazy susans. Did not matter that I did not even buy one myself. Can't get rid of them because each one is different - must say I haven't used them all but one never knows when you'll need it.

60 Gig!!!

daisy530 by daisy530 01 Feb 2010

Eleen--it's alot easier to hide files than fabric :)

eleen by eleen 01 Feb 2010

So true - at least this is my only secret not even my kids knows about this. Regarding the designs problem is that you never know what to sew and I find myself choosing same ones over and over again - normally the ones I've purchased. I also buy a lot when on special. The latest designs I can not resist is the sassy girls.

eleen by eleen 02 Feb 2010

Hi Suzette you made me relook - suddenly also sounded too much. I've got a 500gig external hard drive and only stores embroidery designs on there. Capacity is 465 gig and space left 405gig. Spoke to a computer guy yesterday who can get the hard drives quite cheap. R1000 for a 1,5 terrabyte drive. Considering to get one as another backup. Must admit that I've been so busy with work etc that I haven't cleaned up for sometime so there is quite a lot of duplicates that needs to be removed. I find working on the apple for this is dufficult and need to uncable everyting to be able to do so. Hopefully March holidays will allow me.

suzettebritz by suzettebritz 02 Feb 2010

OK Eleen, I am still unsure of the # of files then.

eleen by eleen 02 Feb 2010

Let's rather not go there.

I would not even start to try to see how many I have I have many many on cd and disk plus all I have in the computer after so many years of buying and collecting them I can tell you I have bought so many from sick, embroidery libary and other designers and all the free ones I could get some times it takes me a long time to find a design I want to use.I know I have it just not where I have a lot of my folders named for the year I collect them.would put all that go to gerher but I would spend weeks on the computer and I just do not have the time let some one younger do that when I am gone.

Suzette, I just stumbled across this question and it raised my curiosity - I have nowhere near the amounts that some of the ladies and gents have here on this site.

I am going to have a "Cull" I think as I've downloaded onto USB drives and I think I've doubled up - so I'm not sure of my final total but when I just added them up there were 18, 285 files and 394 folders.

So time for me to have a clean up I think and delete some of them which I'm sure have been duplicated.

Thanks for asking this as it has now motivated me to do a tidy up. It will be good for when I move into my new sewing room, won't it?

Gee, I hope I don't confuse my computer!

Love and blessings Chris

I'm too scared to even dare check mine. My 'designs' folder has a subfolder for each letter of the alphabet, in which subfolder there is another subfolder for each website starting with that letter and then again in those subfolders there are other subfolders where I tried to organise my designs according to sets, fsl, applique, each alpha gets its own subfolder...... In other words my designs are a perfectly organised mess since I almost always forget what is where!!
It took me two long weeks to unzip many files, delete bad quality designs and remove all formats that I do not need. I daily deleted thousands of files from my recycling bin in this process much to my laptop's delight and mine. My back still aches from sitting at the laptop too long but boy have I learnt my lesson!! I now unzip as soon as I download and delete unwanted formats immediately. I do not download all freebies just in case anymore, I know the world is not going to end if I miss a freebie and I feel good about it!

raels011 by raels011 01 Feb 2010

I have a free program call avafind All I need to do is type in the name of the design and it lets me know where it is (as long as you have named them)

pennifold by pennifold 01 Feb 2010

I have this programme too Raelen - it's the most fabulous thing I've ever used and I owe it all to the AMARILLOACTOR man on here. I think that is his avatar.

Love Chris

suzettebritz by suzettebritz 01 Feb 2010

Wow, so we do get some useful information, by even asking a silly question! I am definitely going to search for that programme. Thank you!!

I wish you hadnt asked as ignorance is sometimes the best, but the can of worms is open so if you must know I have 106,117 designs, Ohhh thats naughty, dont know what I will ever do with them all, I couldnt possibly live long enough to use them. Its an addiction, so I am not to blame,LOL, thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Too late ;-)
When I bought my Futura it came naked- there were about 20 built in UGLY designs and it was a challange to find out where to get some good.
I became a freebie hunter and downloaded everything.
The collection grew with the years but when I was starting a new project I got paralyzed, not able to make a decision.
Most of the freebies were single designs, it took hours to sort and nothing fit together in style.
Then I got interested in digitizing my own designs- so I learned much about quality. (never did an own design yet ;-))

And now I spent the last weeks with Computer Feng Shui and deleted ALL files that:

- are of poor quality (oh so many)
- are of wrong file format (after converting good ones, of course)
- are of "boring" themes and I know I will never get interested in making a project with it- like sports or machines (all this manly stuff)
- complicated techniques as FSL or 3D
- could be replaced easily by using another program, like plain alphabets.
Creating a text with a lettering software is so much easier then to puzzle around with single letters.
Few designs of good quality, my New Years Motto.
I'm sure I can't win this contest and feel relieved!
