The first thing you should do, if you haven't already, is to empty your trash/recycle bin.

Then you need to locate and empty your temporary files (you can locate these by doing a search for folders named "Temporary" or "Temp").

Then you need to locate and remove all your temporary "Internet" files. (which you should have found while doing your search.

Then go back and empty your tras/recycle bin again.

Then you need to run a defrag.

Now if all this sounds complicated, it really isn't, it is called housecleaning and everyone who uses a computer should know how to do this as a basic regular maintenance routine.

If you want more help on how to do these things all you need to do is just ask and I will try and help you in more detail.
Hugs n roses, Meganne

When I run a disk clean up does this take care of the files in temp or do I still need to search for them

meganne by meganne 28 Jan 2010

When you say you run a disk cleanup, do you mean the program from System Tools?

And do you make sure it you tick the internet and temporary files folders?

If you locate these folders manually, you can then be sure that they have been emptied, it is usually quicker than running the clean-up tool but you can still run that too as it should check for other things that you don't need but that are taking up space.
Does this make sense?

You can also remove temporary internet files from the tools menu "Internet Options" of Internet Explorer.

Hi there!
What Meganne is talking about is exactly what the tool I recommended is doing.
And get rid of all things you do not use.
I had a Computer Feng Shui during the last weeks- great when you are done.

Which operating system is it?
Did you care for it in the 8 years?
Everytime you delete programms, rename files or pushing them around it causes "tracks". All this junk is slowing down the system.
Or did you install a new programm lately which might cause the problem?

Maybe it will help when you just clean up your harddrive a bit.
I love this free programm. It is german, but I am sure you will find some similar english language tools too.
