I, too, use a prefolded diaper and if the Mother is especially tiny with small shoulders I just cut off equal amounts down each long side and sew a ribbon that matches my design down to cover the raw edge.;)

Hey all u cuties r so helpful. Anna I too, go with the prefolded diapers, but I have see burps at the store that were much smaller. I like the absorbency of the diapers & believe me some times u really need the absorbency. *

I always use prefold diapers to do burp cloths. I think they are about 17"x11". If you're doing it from scratch you can do it any size you want but I believe somewhere around 17x11 is a good size. Hope this helps. We will want to see the finished product.

You might want to consider a hand or a guest towel as an option for the pattern. The fabric is very absorbent or it could be used as the backing for your project. I know this works as a baby's bib too by cutting a circle opening and sewing on matching ribbing. Look forward to seeing the finished project. I trust this is helpful& God's blessings to you.:^D

To cut a circle opening you can use a CD that is the right size.
