There is a yahoo group devoted to freestanding lace. They have tutorials and projects to practice digitizing FSL. The name of the group is "The Lace Place" Go to Yahoo groups and do a search for them. It is free to join so check it out.

Digitising FSL is not that difficult, but you should not have any jump stitches, all stitches should be joining or overlapping each section, criss-crossed on a very stable foundation and outlines need to be attached to the inner design section. It is very time consuming digitising FSL and the only tutorials I found, when I first started, were to purchase from Flying Needle.
I hope this info helps, Meganne

Ok maybe this will help. Always use same thread in bobbin you have on top. Always slow your machine to its slowest speed. Use WSS & I always use 2 layers. Do not use the clear plastic WSS use the kind that looks like it has fibers in it & I put 1 layer up 7 down & the next crosswise. Some say have WSS hatband tight while others say know. I just make sure there are no wrinkles in the Wss. When finished rinse in warm water for a few seconds then blot with paper towel or towel. I lay mine on was paper usually to dry. How long u rinse depends on how stiff it is. Long rinse less stiff. I like ornaments etc stiff. Hope this helps u on your way. Post what u do so we can see. there's always help here. Just ask. Welcome to cute *
