When I first started I purchased poly thread from Thread Art, because they advertized in Sew News. I have a Babylock that hated the thread, it kept breaking and shredding. I contacted Thread Art, their only response was there was nothing wrong with their thread. I think we could help other beginners by listing our machines names and what brand of thread our machines like and dislike. Thanks ahead of time.

Oh my gosh, I HATE Thread Art... My BL Ellisimo and Esante got VERY angre when I tried their thread on either machine. I use Madeira, Sulky and a couple of other well known brands, but I must be honest with you... Metro thread works just as great as the spools I've spent 25 bucks for. If I want poly thread, Metro is #1 choice.

I have an Esante also. I have always used Maderia thread and never had a problem so I have not tried others.

Simplyrosie, I will have to try Metro, have never used it. Thread Art gives me nothing but problems. H&*

I am bringing this to the top, because a new person needs help, Emmasmimi. Family, please give her some advice if you have the same machine, and have had any of these problems. H&*.

I'm glad you are talking about this. I have a Brother Innov-is 1500D. First embroidery machine, just got it this summer, so I'm definitely a novice. I haven't had any problems with mine until last night. I've been using Brother and Madeira thread and it has worked well. I think my problem was with the design. I broke two needles before finishing. My thread broke several times. My friend used her Janome to stitch the same design today and she broke thread and needles also.

Hi and "Welcome". The Brother, and the Babylock are alike in many ways. What you read about the Babylock maybe true about the Brother also, and visa verser. You should not be breaking needles, what needles are you using? Tell us more about the thread, needles. and where the design came from, some designs are tooo dense and bad. H&*.

I have the husqvarna designer 1 and have never had a problem with any brand. Therefore my stash is overflowing with just about every brand that I could find on sale. My only problem has been with mettalics of any brand so I've just recently bought a metallic needle to see if that helps. My bobbins are all prewounds from The Personal Touch www.thepersonaltouch.us I use the higher quality 'clear glide' and absolutely love them, never had a problem. And my machine was a gift my hubby for our 25th anniversary, not sure which I love more the hubby or the machine!! (giggle)

Boy aren't you the lucky one. A great machine that likes all thread, and a great hubby. I do know that it is easier to find a wonderful embroidery machine then it is to find a wonderful hubby. Haha!! Thanks for your help H&*

Hi I have an Elissimo Baby Lock. I find that Isocord, Madeira and Gueterman work well. I was told to and read to stay away from the cheap threads made in mexico etc... Use threads made in Germany etc..The expensive ones are the ones that are made for this task and work well in the machines. Also check your manual it will recommend what to use . Suzanne

My machine is Janome 10001. I use mostly Metro, Sulky or Maderia. I have tried Isacord and Isofil and have had good luck with all of them. I used to have lots of thread breakage until I got smart and bought a thread stand. That fixed the breakage problem for me. Since then most of my errors of are my own making.!! Hugs, Mary

My machine is husqvarna designer 1. I have never any problem when I use little spool of 200m Sulky or Guterman, but they are expensive, then I have bought thread in cones in different places on internet, when they where in sale : metro, design by sick, thread delight,I have marvelous assortment of threads of many colours, but they all break when I use them, though,I use a gallows as you have recommended here to me!!!I need yet your help???
I use titanium needle with large eye (for my eyes), and i put a new needle when the thread broke, I have spend a fortune in needles!!!
For the bobbins I use usually bobbins all made cartside from ABC and they are very well, some times I do them myself with thread bobbin from sulky, and it is well also but less convenient.
Thank you very much dlmds for your question, I need help also, even if I understand that each machine is a special machine with its taste and character

It sounds like Bikermom could help you. She has the same machine and uses all threads. Have you talked to your dealer about the thread problem? I know some machines can be fussy, however, there should be some brands of thread that it accepts. Do you use a thread stand? If all else fails I would go to the dealer and stitch out something in front of them. Let them see your thread problems. I hope this is of some help. H&*.

Yorika, I had to go look at your machine. I have never heard of this one before. I know the Japanese make good products. You probably have superior thread available to you also. Thankd. H&*

Hi all, I have the Brother Innovis 1500D and use a localy bought thread made in China so no brand name but the thread works well with 90% of the designs. I think it depends on the pattern and how well the digitizer made it. I can't get the specialty needles in Jeddah so use what ever I have and mostly from my normal machine. OH the thread brand is Sunflower but I can't find anything on line for a company, it's only sold in 3,000 or 5,000 meter cones. I did use my sisters Brother 450D (the original, smallest Brother for machine Embroidery) and the Coats & Clark work very well on it.

You are right Dolly digitzing can make a big difference. I have deleted many designs that did not stitch out well. When I have thread that I have not used before I try it out by using a design off of my embroidery machine as I know they are digitzed correctly. Thanks. H&*

I stitch on a Bernina 730 and I also like RA Thread. i also discovered the metro threads and a company in Winston-salen,N.C. called The embroidery Store, www.enbstore.com. However I think most of the problems people have is with the wrong needle. I love the large eye titanuin. I mostly use a 75 but with heavier fabric, I use a 80 or 90. I buy them from www.allstitch.net

Thank you Katydid for your information. I also use RA thread. My machine seems to really like it. I use the needles just like you do, except I use Schmetz embroidery needles. H&*.

I have a Janome 350e I really prefer Robinson anton it really stitches and fills nicely. My dealer sells a brand called Gamut which is canadian and is also very nice and 5.00 for large king spool. The colour selection is not very large. I have thread art and gutterman and use them for line work and such.. One other I tried is Marathon also canadian but it unwinds off the spool weird and I am always having trouble with it especially the metallic. ( which makes me mad as they told me it was the best and I paid alot for it) Thats my story. Bobbin thread is from thread art huge spool and never any problems at all. Hugs Lisa

I have also found RA thread to be very good. I purchase mine from Shoppers Rule. The only bobbin thread that works well for me is Finishing Touch. It is tooo expensive. I wish I could find something that would work in larger spools. H&*.

I have an Elna Xquisite 2, a Designer Diamond and a Brother Innov-'is 750D.

The only threads I had real problems with was blacks and whites in Dragon, Q & A and Robinson Anton, especially the Rayon doing FSL. So I purchased Madeira Rayon and Poly (Blacks & Whites) and no longer have any problem.

I mostly now use R&A threads or Madeira and rarely have any real problems other than for having to adjust tensions.

Now having said that I have more problems with bobbin thread.

The Brother didn't like the best quality Madeira bobbin thread, but stitches well with Brother bobbin thread.

The Elna does not stitch as well with the Brother bobbin thread as it does with Fujix Schappe Spun thread, it doesn't play up, it just doesn't look as nice.

I haven't noticed any great difference with the Diamond stitch outs or behaviour, but I only use the Madeira bobbin thread in that.

I won't buy cheap threads (Dragon) again but I wouldn't mind trying Metro, pity is they only sell the large packs to Australia.
Hugs n roses, Meganne

Meganne, bobbin thread is another question I wonder about. One would think all bobbin thread would work well in any machine. I wonder if machine are set a certain way in the factories to use certain bobbin thread? Wish we had an embroidery machine expert here to ask some of these questions. Thank you for your help. H&*

I have a Brother Innov-is4000D. It does not like Coat's and Clark embroidery thread. I have used a number of other threads, including the not so expensive brands without any problem. (Radiant, Metro) My personal favorite is Madeira Classic #40.***

I have a Babylock Ellegante 2. It does not like sulky thread, Why I do not know. It likes R.A. it will use the metro thread with an occasional break, it will use, radiant without a problem but the ellegante 1 I had would not sew the Radiant thread without breaking over & over, I use embroidex without a problem. There is one thing I have learned though.Different threads may require different positions to feed on the machine some require horizontal feeding, some from a vertical beside the machine position. You simply have to treat your machine like a child & interpret it's every nuance & still u may run into a problem now & then. *4U

Lbrow, you have the same machine that I have. Mine does not like Sulky either. Mine seem to love the RA, it is such a nice smooth thread, and stitches out great. For my RA I use it on the thread stand. Have you found any bobbin thread that works as well as Finishing Touch. I am taking for grant that is what you were told to use when you purchased the machine. Thanks. H&*

Yes,The YLI Lingerie & Bobbin thread. It's 100% nylon, 1200 yrds to a spool & I pay a little over $3.00 a spool. Its fine & you have very little bulk with it on dense designs. I bought a lot of Finishing touch on EBay a couple of yrs. ago & still have a lot but I prefer the YLI it's cheaper & easier to find than the Finishing Touch. My dealer & repairman sells it & I usually buy it by the case. He is the one who recommended it to me although like u say most of the babylock dealers do recommend the finishing Touch. I can tell u something else. My machine went back to the factory several months ago, it came back with a schmetz universal 90/14 needle in it with the embroidery foot on it & my dealer/repairman said that's what he always uses. I've been using the same & had no more problems since the machine came back. Go Figure Lillian
