I've been singing the praises of this tool as a sewing aid for over 25 years and have added it as my favourite, "can't do without" tool to every question ever asked about tools, here at Cute.

"Forceps" is another name for them and I use them to hold my needle while I am screwing it up, to catch and pull bobbin thread while embroidering, for grabbing loose threads, or caught threads, from inside the machine or bobbin, to help pull the needle through material when hand sewing and even for removing bits of paper from inside my printer when there is a paper jam.

I have one pair for each machine as I use them to do so much. I originally bought them to help me bathe my horses wounds so I wouldn't contaminate them.

I definitely couldn't be without mine. And nowadays you can buy them at most material, hobby outlets, sewing supplies even on Ebay.

oops, sorry, yes, it is a medical tool- I had to google it of course just to find out that the german word for it is "hämostat"... not so helpful ;-)
it is used by opticians and mechanics too.
i think i will look for it at a laboratory equipment store.

Idea for christmas: this is a thing your hubby will LOVE to buy for you as a christmas present!
and do not forget to mention, that a thing like this is on your list too... it is great for all the rickrack (pearls, buttons, presser foots etc) you need.

I also have a locking one of these I purchased from a hardware store and DO use it for all my beads and smaller sewing notions.
Only difference is mine are compartmented drawers and each one locks into place so they can't fall out if it tips forwards and it has a handy carry handle on top so I can store it in one room but carry it into my dininig room when I want to make jewellery. They really are a great idea for us ladies, never mind the men! LOLOLOL!!! Hugs n roses, Meganne

They are a medical tool. HOWEVER, there are also some in the hardware stores. I got mine at a tool store MUCH, MUCH cheaper than a medical one. And it works great!

Thanks Eva, I looked in the dictionary for a translation but it isn't in the dictionary so I will try to find out the name in Dutch from this tool.It looks like some medical tool.

Thanks, very interesting. This is how we learn things that we would never have known if not for other clever people.
