Hi Cuties! Has anyone done an applique only to notice that fabric looks like it is going to fray around the outline? I have been using cotton fabric. Should I use a different type of fabric?

Fray Check on the outside edge - surely would help. *4U

Just use iron-on facing--it makes the fabric look better and gives it body, and makes it so you can't see the color behind it in the case underlying is darker.

This sounds so much better than fray check. Thank you so much. ***

You could also iron a lite or med. iron-on interfacing on the back of you cotton fabric before you use it. H&*.

Thank you so much. I had never thought of that. One can definately learn alot from the CUTIES.

Yes, this recently happened to me too. I now try to find a cotton fabric with a higher thread count. I have also used a thin line of fray check liquid around the edge of the fabric before adding the final (satin) stitching. There is an iron on backing (Pelon)that one can use for applique but I have not figured out how to do it using machine embroidery designs. Hope this helps. I'm sure other CUTIES will be able to help us with this. Happy stitching. ***

Thanks for the idea! I have fray check. How long are you letting this dry? Maybe I should try the higher thread count. Have you found other fabric that works better?
