Cuties, I did the names on towels, removed most of the WSS and sprayed the rest to dissolve. Being "starch", it is now rough/hard to the touch. Don't want to wash it, for an order, do I explain it will get soft? Will they believe me? What do you do?

Hi Suzette,I see you have been give answers. I use a spray on all my projects that I use wss. I spray (with warm water) and leave it for a few seconds , until it starts to dissolve and then just pull it off, and the little bits I just use my nail and it all comes off.(or use a tweezers ) Hugs Yvonne

Now that is another solution! I used cold water and rubbed it in - no wonder! Thanks!

I used to have this problem, then I read that using very warm water is the key - and letting it "soak" for a few minutes. I use a plastic container, fill it about half-way with hot tap water, let the item soak for about 5 minutes, then rinse well. After the item dries (or is damp dry), I press the item face down (even towels) on a padded surface, which can be just another folded up towel. This gives you the look it had before wetting. So far, this has worked well for me.

Suzette I tear it away and then I use a wet cloth and press over the design and this work like a bomb. Jy weet, die regte outydse preslap. Ek gebruik ook die sakke wat in die hospitale gebruik word. Werk lekker. Lekker dag.

Will hospitals sell this?

I take tweezers & remove all the WSS , also like using a little bamboo skewer to flick it out & have been known to use a toothpick(pointed) on occasion. You have been given some excellent suggestions by the other QTs. Up to you now. *

I have never tried to spray them. I tear away as much as I can. If there is a tiny bit left tell them that it will wash off.
At this point is it possible to ask the customer which they would prefer, hard or washed?

Suzette, like tindo, I always just tear away all that I can, then using tweezers, I take all of the rest away that is possible. It should not feel hard at that point. Before I knew all of this, I sprayed once and had your problem. I resprayed and used a white cloth to blot the area to remove all that I could. Then, I put it between 2 pressing cloths and ironed it dry. If you will see the person that the order is for, show them one you have done and already laundered so that they can feel for themselves the difference. If you won't see them, make a nice label on your computer that says optium results seen after laundering.;)

Suzette, using a WSS topping is a touching thing - isn't it - you want all the pieces removed on the project before you give it to them - but then - you have pieces left - if you spray it - like you did - they melt, but are not desolved away - so it leaves the surface hard - as you explained - then what do you do? Whenever I have had that situation - I wash it and explain to remove the WSS it had to be washed - if you feel that they would rather you did not wash it - then rinse the area as best you can - getting the WSS out as much as you can or just explain - that it will soften after washing. Not an easy one - is it? *4U

that is right - just keep your confidence up.

Suzette, I dont use spray either, like Tindo, I just cut the plastic WSS away.
I would try wash only the embroidered part, to take completely the starch off, before giving to your customer. I did that way once, and it worked.

When I embroider on towels i just pull the wss (the clear plastic one away from the design...No need to wet it. Use tweezers if you have hard to get at spaces. I usually explain to people if they are for a gift, that it well get softer with washing. But I have never used a spray of water to dissolve it. This will make it hard.

Suzette this is how I do it. I am sure u will get an advanced embroiderer with a good answer. For towels I use the "plastic" which u just tear away. The rest will wash away when u use the towel. Hoop dit help jou. Lekker naweek.

Marthie, This is exactly what I use (Avalon)and how I do it, but after spraying and drying it is soo hard. Do you mean I should not spray to remove the small pieces and just say it will wash away?
