Rar is a zip format, you will need WINZIP to open the file than you see the formats for embroidery machines inside this file.

GOOD LUCK!

Actually, unless they have just recently upgraded, WinZip doesn't open RAR files. But, the problem the .pes users run in to is that most RAR files (at least those I've downloaded recently) are .dst files and the color changes and appearance on screen are disgusting (my word)!!

If WinZip opens RAR now that's a newbie for me. I do love the 7-Zip program that gg2009 gave below.

7-Zip is sort of the "new" WinZip, I think Edith's point was that RAR is a compressed file, not an embroidery extension. DST files always show up in those colors, no matter if you use PES, JEF, whatever, because the colors are sewing codes, to tell you the number of color changes and where they are. They're not intended to be anything like the colors you sew. If you notice in your DST files, the color order is always the same. When I get DST, I put it into my Janome Ditigizer Pro, and use the thread colors I have to see what the design will look like when I sew it out. Don't overlook DST's because of the colors, some are super nice designs! Hugs, Marji

Eva gave us this site ... it is listed under "software" if you want to read more.

Thanks for clarifying that, Edith! Most people are familiar with the .zip file extension, and know it's compressed and have to unzip it. But with the newer .rar compression, some don't know that's a compressed file that has to be opened just like a .zip file, and the embroidery files are inside. Somewhere Eva Jungermann gave a list of places to go to get free software to unzip .rar files, if you don't have the software. Thank you so much for bringing this up, Edith! Hugs, Marji
