I have researched the lead given in my previous post and am sad to say that they do not work. Marine thread is the heavier thread that is used to stitch the seams of the canvas. The solution or dope dyed is used to embroider designs on the canvas. It is a lot thinner than the marine thread. So for the short, I am still looking for a US supplier for solution or dope dyed thread. Can anyone help. Thanks to those who previously attempted to assist me in my search.

just a quick google and it seems to be a china based thing. You may have to go that route. But in case someone else knows something, bttt you go.

Susie, sorry I didn't see your other post, so forgive me if you've already heard this ... my suggestion would be -

Embroider the canvas using ordinary embroidery thread, then coat, maybe even several coats of a sealer over the embroidery to seal the canvas.

My DH said to contact an aircraft parts supplier, he said to google 'Stits' in the USA (don't know where you are). They should be able to help with a sealer.

My DH seems to think they would have something better than ordinary dope. Apparently they should have a sealer that dries 'clear' - very important if you want your embroidery colors to look good! Also apparently the Stits one is non-flammable - an important consideration.

He really seems quite knowledgable about 'dope'! Maybe there's something I don't know about him, hmmmm! Haha!

Love and hugs sweetie, hope this helps.

I don't know, but maybe if you contacted the marine thread supplier, and asked them the question, they could point you in the right direction. Or perhaps the manufacturers of the embroidered canvas products? Did you do a search on the computer for what you're looking for? Somewhere this thread must exist, if it's being used. Good luck in your search! Hugs, Marji

I have contacted a couple marine thread supplies and they haven't a clue for me. I have also searched for about 4 hours and come up with the chinese-asian suppliers but was hoping to avoid the shipping costs plus if you research most come in large quantity cones. I even emailed Marathon Thread and they didn't seem interested at all in assisting. It is for a customer request so I am hesitant to attempt the sealer method but it does seem logical to me. But it isn't what the customer wants. Thanks all for attempting to help. Ruthie I think you just have a very knowledgeable hubby. "No dope". At least he tried to help. VBS
