www.sewweird.com haS A FREE frog pencil topper/sucker cover under the kids section.
i read many suggestions, here's another: HANDKERCHIEFS with a little child-design in the corner. perhaps even the name of the child?
Jink, did you think of guesttowels (cheap in Holland 2 for €1) You can put anything on these and chuildren will be proud to have their own little towel. Can become handy when they go out for the day and take the little towel with them. :0)
wow what a response ..i like the bags ...but also i thought of keychains with their name on it ....the pencil tippers are also fun to do but can any body explain how to make these or is the some one who has a freebie so i can look in to it ..then i will make one for kick (my son ) he loves frogs ....
smoke1275 ...what is a boot bag ??
ii really don't know ...
and gerry you have a point with the t-shirts but half his class walks around with their own name on the t-shirt ...
so i think i will not do that ..but thanks for the tip
i think i will to the bookmarkers when he is in clas 3 then they learn how to reed ...
Jink, I have a 5 year old grandson and his favorite thing right now is washcloths. The 6 year old and 4 year old granddaughters love them also. I love that idea and can embroider something on them with the theme of the party or just do some animal font with the childs initials. You could also get the cloths and do face mits, they are a big hit. Just cut like gloves with the embroidery on the back.
Have made pencil toppers, finger puppets and classroom tic-tac-toe boards.
Bonne chance! *4u!

I suggest book markers with various animals or letters on them. Also you could make little bags for holding crayons and pencils. With a cute design and maybe only their Initials for privacy.
If you wait on all the names in the class, it may be too late to start a large project. Please don't put children's names (initals are ok) on a shirt, back pack or anything they carry out in public. A child will respond to someone that calls them by their name thinking they know them. Save that for home items like pillow cases, wash cloths, towels, pj's, etc. I like the sucker covers with adding the year on the back and stitch a little string into it when you attach the back. That way it can be used as a Christmas orn. the next month! Finger puppets and have the class do a "play" using the puppets. I have done small goodie bags for each child decorated with the theme of the party..like a frog the year my grand DAUGHTER (!) had to have a frog theme party! Also did face towels with Pool Party on them for each child to use at the pool and then take home. (SAMs has a pack of 12 towels all in white that work great and wash well). Have fun!
For my sons birhday in march, I made small bags for fruits or what they want to put in it. A small bag, 16 x 26 cm, with a string in the top. The girls bags with Hello Kitty and the boys bags with Pokémon
I like the idea that Smoke had... tote bags. You can probably find an inexpensive resource online and put a coloring book/crayons in them that you could pick up at the 99 cent store or somewhere similar. :-)
I have made tote bags for girls - embroidered names and boys Boot Bags with a drawstring amd again names. I made because it's not always easy to find what you fancy.
Tote bags or aprons can be found at craft stores and then you could personalize them.
Jink how many are in the class?
My mind is not in thinking mode at the moment, but easy and inexpensive (mum's would love it) is a face cloth for each child with its name on. You will get a much better idea from someone else. Happy sewing
Bookmarks is the first thing that came to my mind. Maybe with each child's first name on it...?
If T shirts are in the budget (sometimes you can get them fairly cheep) you could put their names on them. Simething I've been meaning to do for mrandkids is a smal tite for toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and PJ'a for sleepovers. Add their names to these as well. You could call it a "sleepover sac". Let us know what you decide.
