I keep telling myself I'm going to slow down on the design collecting.......yeah, right. Who am I kidding?!! I just love what the designers create. I can draw, but I can't digitize so I'm at the mercy of others. I just thank everyone who is so talented and shares.

I tried to stop, the intention lasted 2 days. To help myself make the most of my embroidery time I committed myself to make one project from scratch every week and also to stitch out at the least one design, by doing this I'm not waisting all my embroidery time on the PC and I get to see some of those designs stitched out, hehehe. I've been keeping to my commitment and it is keeping me from running around in circles around my PC. Let us know what you did when you find a reason not to hit the DL button.

Ah this is the 1,000 dollar question, when does downloading end?
When you find out do let us know and possibly you will be able to make money if you can cure downloading. Like many others I have SADD, there are a few alpha holics about and there is DINE to which is designs I need eventually. Happy downloading

I think downloading ends....when your computer explodes from too many designs!

Eventually you get settled into the type of designs that you really like and will use. My problem is that I change from time to time. It becomes "just in case" I need it.

When you start learning to digitize and you realize "I can do a better job myself" then you start downloading clipart. LOL

Either way, watch out for those copyright statements and don't take what you can't sell, then you don't have to worry about remembering which is which.

Well my computer ids in the saame room as my machine so...... My hubby even bought me an extention for my mouse and an extra mouse pad so I don't even have to leave my sewing machine to download a design. The only problem is getting them all cataloged. If I coulf do that in my sleep I would be set.lol

Sandy, WELCOME to the CUTE family - I have gotten very picky with what I download free or paid for - that is for sure - not sure there is or is not a number - but you will get a sense of what is working for you - do more embroidery work than downloading - it gets you farther ahead of the curve. *4U Hope to see some stitched with pictures in the project section, soon. *4U

All these comments are really great. I have 1000's of D/L but it seems like I stick to the same ones or same themes. But it is so much fun.

HI Sandy, I too am very picky like some of these ladies. Out of 10 freebies, I may find one I like. If I'm not going to use it, I won't download. :-) Hard drives are cheap, I say if you enjoy the hobbie, go for it! :-) lol

I had bought a product called sew clean and it got rid of almost 5 gigs of duplicate designs..now I am sorting them and no longer download all those freebies..I spend more time organizing the files then embroidering, so no more for me.. oh and once you get bitten by a virus from one of those websites I opted to stick to just a couple sites and will be more careful...

Only when their is no more machine to sew with, kids or people to sew for or designs to download... Who knows. There is just not an answer for your question. The only one I could come up with is to old to do it or no longer here on earth to enjoy it.

We decided awhile back that we would form a 12 step club called S.A.D.D. (seriously addicted to downloading designs). The only problem was there was no sponsors......no one we could find has ever beat the addiction.....
(No harmful intention meant to any 12 steppers, only my sincere admiration)

NEVER!!!! Once you start to D/L YOU have the addictive bug imbedded in YOU!...It will NEVER go away, and IF you think you can stop...go ahead, try..I don't think you will last a week, and especially after you have spent at least a month at CUTE! Even if you go on a cruise, vacation to the wild blue yonder, or have a major computer meltdown...YOU won't be able to stop!!

Ever hear of the never ending story well so is downloading. Is it not the same cuties here every day and as far as i can see people only dissappear when their computer is out of commision. Or are on holiday and when on holiday they still sneak a peek to see whats going on here. We all have the same disease and that is called addiction and i can now say to you welcome to our club you have it to.

She who dies with the most deisgns wins!lol
Its addictive like this site, but look at it this way, its not fattening, it costs next to nothing, its not immoral, what more can we want. Cheers Ruth *4u

Truthfully, I don't know. I haven't seemed to reach that point. I thought that once I was confident about digitizing, that would do it, but no. I still download as many freebies as I have been for a long time. I did get more picky about what I would collect, but I haven't stopped completely. If you ever find that magic milestone (whatever it may be), be sure to let us know! I bet there are some that will then work toward it as a goal, and there will be many others who will avoid that milestone like the plague! Addiction, we love thee.

Welcome to Cute!

I AM addicted to DL Embroidery Designs - I don't think I will or can ever stop! ;-) BUT I do take time off to embroider and Quilt!

So IF you have the will power then I take my hat off to you!! I also don't just DL ANYTHING - I do have my favourite websites too! In the beginning you just DL but after a while you become familiar with what type of designs you like and dislike! So I do have my fave categories!

BTW, There is a program that can sort out your files for you to stop duplication of designs - if I am not mistaken it is called "Deduper" or something like that! I have not used it and I KNOW that I DO have some duplicates but I can live with them! ;-)

*4U!

You need a system so you know what you have downloaded and then after about three years you start to think well I better try some of these out before i'm too old to want to do it. Then you discover that you have so many that you are never going to be able to sew them all out in your life time. Then you start to get picky on what you download and only download the ones that you really like and not because they are free. Then you start to get some of the bought designs and discover they they are better and nicer so you get hooked there and all the time in the back of your mind you know you are not going to be able to sew them all, but you will keep doing it so at leat your children wont want for a nice embroidery design or have any shortage of designs to use when you are gone. So take time out and try some of them, start making presents with them and make things to be remembered by because if they cant sew they will at least have some nice embroidery made by you which will be more special than the designs in the end. Wow, did you take a breath when you wrote that?

LOL! Love and blessings Chris

sanjoy51 by sanjoy51 18 Jun 2009

Yes I did, but thats how I'm feeling and all the time I still cant stop downloading. when I see a nice design I have to have it, it's like a drug. The only way to take a break is to walk away from the machine and turn it off and go shopping. Then when you are at the shops you see things and think, oh a certain design would look nice on that, or i could embroider this or that. It's no good even when you sleep, because you wake up thinking on what you are going to make and how you will do it. There's no escaping it, so you just go with the flow. lol.
