I had made but was unable to get on my machine so it's been zipped in a plastic bag for a while now, whew what a trip! Lots of fun but lots and lots of standing. It took almost 5 hours to quilt the thing but I don't think it looks to bad for a first time. Some of it is beautiful - on that part I used stippling - the other leaves a little to be desired but I did my best. I made the dresden plate and then outlined the inside of each 'leaf' in thedesign, whew but now if I can get a border on it and a camera I'll post it - but that will be a little while. Just wanted to share my new learning experience. Now I want my own frame!!! *giggle*

I'd need lessons before I could use a long arm. I've never even seen one in action. Congratulations on your accomplishment.

Hey, that gives me another reason to go spend time with my wonderful sister in law at Ormond Beach! What's the name of the shop?

Sounds like a wonderful experience. I've thought about taking the class to do it, but haven't yet. You just might inspired me.

take the class, if the shop is a friendly one you'll have a ball. We have a quilt shop here (maybe 10 min away) but they aren't very nice since I didn't buy my machine from them, oh well......

I had a blast when I rented one last summer. We had to take a class first. I did a double size that my mom had pieced years ago. I didn't go out and buy a frame, but I did buy the fabric mover with stitch regulator, which is fun too, but doesn't compare to size you can work on. I'm looking forward to seeing your quilt.

I had to take a class also, but it was only $20 and I was the only one in the class! :-)

daisy530 by daisy530 30 May 2009

That's the way to go. We had about 12 in ours, and I think it was about $50. That included the headers, which we had to buy.

Well- that sounds like a special day for you. You were probably about 20-30 miles from me. So glad that you got it done, and know that you will enjoy it more, because you did it.

Yep, that's why they rent them, because they know you'll WANT them, hee hee hee!! I'm so glad you had the opportunity to do your own, and I'm sure you're the only one that's going to see it's less-than-perfect. Good for you!!! Hugs, Marji

Good for you!! those things are great once you get use to it..how ever don't try a "cal king"...My mistake!! that darn thing didn't even fit on it...and my frame is 120 inches long !! yes it does take time, it usally take me two days to do mine. now they have a something that will do it for you using some kind of Computer chip!! needless to say it is up there in the $$$$!!! which I don't see in my future..lol

Sounds like you had a lot of fun learning :) Not everyone would take that challenge!!! Getting all of that home, set up, doing the quilting, taking it all down, packing it up and taking it back! WOW! That is a lot of work. The quilt was worth it, too :)

no no honey the whole thing was set up at the quilt shop and I went there to work on it...trust me if it ever came in my house, it would never go back!

aviesel by aviesel 30 May 2009

hee hee I can see I misunderstood your original post! I'll chalk it up to being up almost 48 hrs without sleep trying to deal with plantar fasciitis pain in both heels. But, you are probably right, you get a quilting frame & machine home and it is going stay!!!

What F U N! There is a shop just north of me that will rent their longarm, but I haven't ever used it. Maybe you will inspire me!;)

go for it! it's a real hoot, if you have a smaller quilt or throw, you won't have to stand so long to quilt it. But what a blast. You could also take the class, bring a small 'sample' and by the time the class is over you're done and no more $$

I'm glad you had a great experience. I longarm for myself and others and the standing can get tedious at times, but at least when I work at home I can take a break. Would love to see your pics.

Well done - sounds like a lot of fun and hard work. 5 hours to quilt - OMG I don't know how you could stand for that long. Anyway looking forward to seeing it - 100% to you for giving it a go.

I send mine to a professional quilter - can't afford those long arm quilting machines. But!!!!! nah!!! I'll leave it to the professionals.

Love and blessings Chris
