My daughter had leukaemia since age 11, and her chemo in 1998/1999 almost killed her, so it had to be stopped. It affected her liver in such a way she was on a transplant list for years, but slowly, ever so slowly, she recovered and she's been in remission ever since. And although docters warned her she might never have children after that, last year she was told she might try, but must be prepared for miscarriages (and had one) and now she has a daughter, 12 days over due, after hours of labour she had a C-section. Nothing ever went easy for her. But now there's Ruth and I've never been as tearfully happy in my life, not even when my own were born! Rejoice with me!!

I just got my hair shorn for summer, my Marine haircut, 'high & tight' some of you will know, and this child has longer hair than I do! My daughter phoned me, her husband had got her a tape measure: length 5 cm, just short of 2 ".

Ruth is definitely a child that the Lord wanted to be brought into this world against all odds! I am sitting here with tears running down my face and laughing at the same time. I am so happy for all of you but especially your daughter, her husband and Ruth. She has been through alot in her life and has overcome it all to bring a wonderful tiny life into this world. Ruth is beautiful and has more hair than I have! From the picture it seems it must have been something she got from her dad. Can you think of a more wonderful Mother's Day gift than to bring a healthy baby into this world? I am in awe at all she has gone through and could still have children. This is truely a gift fom God! Thank you Linda. My daughter's second name is Martine, which seems to mean 'the fighter', dedicated to Mars; however that maybe, a fighter she's been all her life.

Thanks Marji, I'm still shaken myself. My daughter is almost 38, a risk on its own, their was the rhesus pos -neg issue (turned out okay), she kept losing weight, nearly lost the baby early February, got gallstones at 4 months and will have her gallbladder removed 6 weeks from now, but both she and Ruth are doing fine.

I just wanted to add my congratulations to you and your daughter (and her husband), and new granddaughter. Seems like nothing worth while comes easy in this life. Good days are ahead for all of you.
