My DH family is Ukranian so the tradition is to fill a huge basket (and I do mean HUGE) with traditional foods for the Blessing of the Easter Basket. That includes hard boiled eggs, meat (usually ham), sausage, butter, cheese, horseradish root, salt, Paska (bread) & of course Pysanky. The baskets are blessed and later become the meal to break the fast. Usually the eldest family member breaks the blessed egg into portions, one for each person. This symbolizes family unity and the hope for a happy and prosperous year until next Easter.

I guess I should have added that my family always had the traditional easter egg hunt. We had the traditional golden egg (paper mache & gold leaf). The golden egg was filled with special chocolate treats and money. As the family grew and more eggs were hidden I started making a map of the areas the eggs were hidden in so we didn't have the stinky egg problem months later.

I will tell you of a story of my son who is Downsyndrome and also autistic when he was 7 i read a story of the crusafiction of Christ and he cried and he had nevfer cried befor in his life he has no real speach and i then cried as i know he is a true child of God and that he may know more than we realy do. He is now 32 and has not cried since. It is fun to have the Easter Bunny and all the little chickens and eggs. But the greatest gift of all for Easter was the knowledge of the suffering and the pain that one man suffered so that we could be redeamed and he had given all a new life I feel his love and there could be no greater love than what he had done for man kind. I know that there are many who do not know or understand but for me and my family we do and this love is what we celerbrate at this time.I pray that you all can experience a loving time this Easter and Peace to all Please say a prayer for all the men and women in the forces who are sacraficing their lives so to that we may have this freedom and peace to love live and worship as we choose to do. My love and best wishes to all Happy Easter.God Bless.

Bunny Buns.

Take a sweet roll recipe - like one for cinnamon rolls - take the dough and roll it into a rope (like you would make pretzels) and make it about 12 inches or so long about 3/4 inch wide. Twist into an 8 but leave about 1-2 inches for ears at the top. let it rise according to whatever recipe you use. I put raisins on for eyes....and I make a powdered sugar glaze and put it in a squirt bottle so the bunnies can be decorated by the "eater"after they are warm from the oven fresh. It is a fun way for you to "play" with your food. You can experiment with other critter shapes or even make eggs. Remember, the bread dough has to sit and rise before you bake it - so the shape might change a bit.

Have fun...There are recipes on the internet for different ways to do this.

When I was teaching we would make dinosaure eggs . On Thursday i bring in boiled eggs each child take one egg and starts tapping it gently on thier dest. When they have lots of crackes they put them in water that has been colored with koolaid mixes. They set in the frig over night and at lunch on Friday we peel the eggs ang they look like fossils. Some kids eat them but most want to take them home to show thier families.

MY Aunt handed down a tradition to me and I did it with my kids and now my Grandchildren. It hunting for the golden egg. Who ever finds the egg recieves an envelope of money. Every adult puts money in the envelope as they arrive. Just before the hnt the envelope is sealed and then the child who finds the golden egg gets toopen the envelop. To make our golden egg we boil an egg in a pot with yellow onion skins and the egg will take on a golden color. The longer you boil the darker the color.

I used to sneak down the hall at night after the children had gone to bed and sprinkle talcum powder on the carpet and then I'd walk on just the tips of my toes spread out as far as they'd go and it would look like bunny footprints. The kids faces in the morning were a picture as they would see that the bunny had left his little fluffy white footprints.
They never did figure out I did it.

Love and blessings Chris
and I wish you all a happy and blessed Easter!

I used to make hot cross buns on Good Friday. For Easter Sunday as a child there was always boiled eggs for breakfast. The eggs had faces drawn on them and were often boiled with onion skins so the eggs were yellow or red food dye was added to the water. When our daughters were young for a few years I would draw faces and names on the eggs and then put them under the chickens we used to keep in the garden. That was fun.
Simnel cake was made by some but not us

I remember YEARS ago....My Mom would boil 7 / 8 dozen eggs and we would all sit around the kitchen table (covered in newspaper) to color eggs...There were 8 of us so it took forever....Boy some of the colors we could come up with..the older we got the more daring!!!!Today is the FIRST year that I'm NOT coloring eggs...I did the last few years with my GS, but since he's 11....!!!!

No, we just have the family here including in-laws and all of the children. I will cook lunch after church and the children will search for eggs. We do have a "Golden Egg" that usually has a $5 bill in it for one lucky kid. Great question and I enjoyed reading what you all do from other countries.;)

Butterlamb too, and I have a mould, but it can be quite sticky at times, which ruins the look. However, you could buy them ready made at any supermarket, but for that price I can make at least 3.
No sugar loaf for me though, but from my time in England I kept the recipe for Hot Cross Buns, for Good Friday.
I used to make chocolate eggs myself, bought a couple of mould years ago.
Hard boiled coloured eggs are universal, I think, and my grandkids are very fond of seeking (and finding) them in the garden.

on the saturday befor I would have a bag of little eggs and just toss them all around the neibours front yard as they had 3 little boys. Still do it even though they are getting older.

well our tradition in our famaly is with eastern to make a lam from butter .....how ever i don't have a mal for it so i cheat a little bit and i make a silly lam face of the butter !!!!!

and we alway have matsez bread,do you know that??
and a typical dutch bread duvenkate bread ....
ik think i am giong to make thakt with the children ....
easy to do
first you make from fine sugar (we call it bastert sugar) with some water lumps like a reason format ..
then i make a simple dough for white bread.....
when the bread is ready to bake i will ad 10 grams off vanille sugar and do bash the bread firmly....
then i put the fine sugar in to the middle and i fold the bread a round it .....
some times ik do it is a butterd cakeform and some times ik make a chicken of it ...
than i let it rest for 30 minets onder a warm towel and bake the thing for 30-45 minets in a pre heated oven off 200C
