Welcome to Cute, Tindo. That happened to me before I organize my files. Now I know where to look for right away. Meganne gave you a great way to organize them...it takes a while but you will not waste time anymore :) . Hugs&blessings, Yoriko
No.
The key is to categorise & organise your designs as you accumulate them.
And if you can't remember what you normally put into what category, then cross reference by putting the same design in several places.
e.g. A Free Standing Lace Christmas Angel Ornament.
could be filed Under:
Lace Designs\Christmas
OR
Holidays\Christmas\Lace\Ornaments
OR
Fantasy\Angels\FSL
Or
Religious\Angels\FSL
or All of the above categories.
The idea is to set up Main folders Numbered 01-15 then sub-folders and even more sub-folders, etc.
But stick to the same number of main folders and only create sub-folders as you need them and make sure they match your mind set.
It's no good filing an Angel under Fantasy if (in your mind) you relate Angels to 'Religious' but the very next day you may relate Angels with Christmas,
Only YOU know how your mind is likely to relate to a particular type of design, but once you have established this relation you must stick to it and it will be much easier to do that, if once you have set up your main categories, you write them out in a list and refer to that main (index) list every time you file a design until it becomes 2nd nature.
An orderly mind works far better than a chaotic mind.

meganne thank you for your advise i am on my way to organization tomorrow the weather here is going to be 42deg so i am staying indoors in the cool and guess what i will be doing...filing, filing and more filing and the occasionall read of cuteembroideries of course.
Yes, I just spent most of the Friday lookig for a set I know I have. I finally decided it was time to get organized so I spent the rest of the Friday and all day Saturday. I have only made a dent in the job and I still didn't find what I am looking for.
YEA kind of like my sometimers disease..sometimes I remember and sometimes I don't!
tindo, WELCOME to the CUTE family - I used to do that - but once I got my files organized and learned to do a search - it is so much easier.
