The answer, as you have already been told, is that you can not "go over" the size limitations of your hoop. The machine parts will only go so far. If the design is too large, the reader/writer won't even allow you to transfer it, so it won't even sew part and then cut off.

The only options that you would have when it comes to designs that are larger than your hoop would be to split the design (which requires both software with a splitting ability and the know-how to both split and then re-join the design) or else to reduce the design. Be warned, however, that you should never try to reduce (or enlarge) a design more than 10% to 15% at the very most. The density of the design doesn't change (unless you have software that specifically includes density adjustments when it resizes, and most don't) so it will either be too thick or will have "bald" spots.

Also, NEVER attempt to adjust the size (either smaller or larger) on Free Standing Lace (FSL) since the design would never sew out right if you do that. There is too much relying on the ratios and placement of all the components of the lace, so changing them is risky at best.

Good luck, and fortunately, there are lots of designs available that are 4x4 or smaller.

question,I was reading my book and you can reduce the stitch lenght (2 and 6) to change size of embroidery I don't know how much that is do you the widthcan be adjusted between 0 and 6mm.then it says the when sewing embroideries width can be set between 2 and 6 to change size. I am trying to do the letters that are new everyday. I want to do a Christmas quilt. If you know about any of these maybe you can help me Thanks again.

Hello, welcome to a great place. I'll just add to the answers given. If you come across designs that are too big for you right now , make a list of which ones you like so you know where to go back to if and when you get a larger hoop machine. And if they are freebies, save them. One never knows when one really NEEDS that once seen design! lol. And those designs you do save, back them up at least once a month to a cd

You can resize the designs but you need to test them before sewing on project. Some designs do not resize very well. I also only have a 4x4 area, and have been able to resize some of the great larger files. True Sizer is a free program and very easy to use. You can save in most formats. The link is below.

First I'd like to say a Big WELCOME, and 2nd, I also have a Viking 4x4 hoop. I have the 3D Software and can shrink a little there, IF you can get the design loaded on your card (I don't think it will load) You can use the machine control to make it slightly smaller. Hope this helps, can you D/L one of those free reducer programs they have out there?

hi bunnylane and welcome! If your machine only has a 4x4 embroidery field it will not even accept you trying to load a larger design into it. What machine do you have? DO you have any resizing/formatting programs?

Welcome to the Cute Family . about your question I am afraid not . I know how upsetting it is to see designs larger than your machine will use. My first machine was a 4x4 field , my 2nd macine has a 5x7 field and now I see 6x10 designs I want I just DL anyway and put EXLG at the beginning for the future .hehe ( I guess we are never happy ) Hope you can reduce the designs you want. Come back and visit often. A flower for you.

no, unfortunately you can not go over. Perhaps you have a program that will allow you to reduce the design? Welcome to the site. I am happy you are here.;)
