I too use the sticky back on the back and WSS on the top. but I agree I wouldn't put a name on the garment so the child could be called by name by a stranger. Why not just put the initial of the first name or a 3 letter monogram. .( I don't hoop much anymore either , I use sticky back or magnahoop ) A flower for you

I do the same as the others suggested: hoop stabilizer and fix the article with basting stitches, which one of my machines can doe automatically and else I pin or hand baste. No hoop marks to get rid of afterwards and ideal for unhoopable items.

I hope that you are not sewing the actual childs'? names on the hoodies where they are visible. That would be asking for trouble. Better to put names in a non visible part of the garment for I D purposes only. For safey reasons only ever put designs or non I.D. words on the visible parts of the garments.

I don't hoop hardly anything anymore, just the stabilizer. Then baste the item to the stabilizer with digitized basting stitches.

Personally I like sticky tear away on the bottom and WSS on top w/ a basting stitch
