Thanks mops for a great answer. I always downloaded with Hus because that's what the dealer said. But I experimented with the others. It appears that VIP downloads the colors more accurately. Most sites do not have VP3. I believe I saw it once! I have a Viking and 4D and I can use just about any of them especially if I go through 4D.
I think mops answered your questions. The Designer SE reads all formats except art. The new Diamond will read all formats I believe. (Will find out next week when I get mine at last.) VIP also is used for Pfaff. I don't remember on the previous Designer series as to the formats. Believe the 1+ used only HUS and the Designer 1 used the VIP as well. I don't think any except the SE and Diamond could read PES. It might depend on the embroidery programs. They all embroider and sew beautifully. Guess it depends on what machine brands are available in your area so you can get the help you need. Husqvarna.com will answer any questions you might have.
When I owned a Rose the HUS was all I could use. They sure have come a long way. Now all I can use is PES. I guess you can consider yourself very lucky. Great question.
Thanks Claude for asking...I didn't know that either and Martine, thanks for the lesson!;)
HUS was the format you could make with the Husqvarna software System5, which was followed by the VIP software (which used VIP), which in turn was followed by 3D and now 4D, that outputs VP3 and lots of others as well. Both VIP and VP3 can hold colour information and notes, which is not the case with HUS The machines read .vhs, which was used on the embroidery cards and the disk. The Designer USB can use .vhs directly, the software to write to a disk can use HUS, VIP, VP3 and other non-Viking formats.
So you can download PES (and others) and write it to your disk with 3D or 4D without reformatting first.
Hopes this helps. Martine
Extremely interesting answer. I'll never remember all of it. You must have lived through it and used the Husqvarna Viking systems.
