I am thinking of upgrading to a Designer SE. Owners of Designer SE please let me know how you like yours please. Anyone can give me their suggestions. Thanks, Grandma Papers

Good luck Karen - let me know how you do - I think that is what my Mother has - but I am not totally sure. She hasn't had it out in months! *4U

I have the SE which I upgraded to all the features of the SE limited. I also have the 4D software. I have all the hoops available for it. I started using only Husqvarna with the model before 6030 which has the cams. It has many stitches but does not embroider like the newer ones. I kept it when I got my 1+ for embroidery, then traded the 1+ for the the Designer 1. I have loved all of them. I still have the 6030 just for a spare for sewing and all the fancy stitches (not as many as the SE). I have just traded my SE for the Diamond because of the large hoop and a few other features. I do not have it home yet so cannot give an opinion on it. Some of my friends have the SE upgraded and do not want to trade for the Diamond because they like the SE so much (and the price of the Diamond - did not think they were offered enough trade-in either.) You really will want the 4D software. I did not get the 4D Professional but am very happy with what I have. I personally still prefer the floppy disk (easier for me than the emb. stick) I bought the device for the floppy. Some of my friends got the CD device. All the feet fromm Designer 1 work on the SE, too. A great machine and embroiders beautifully.

Thank you for the information. I hope you love your Diamond, I've seen the demos and it seemed wonderful.

I have (2) of the SE that I had upgraded to the Lmtd features. I love the machine. Since the Diamond is out now you should be able to get a fantastic deal on the "gently used" models that have been traded up. I had an E-mail sent to me from the Viking store and you can get the SE, the fabric mover, and another item - can't remember what it was for less than $5000. I was offered $3000 for my SE, but can not justify getting the Diamond just now. I use the memory stick solely for holding designs that I am working on, but it is so much easier to use than the floppy that was for the Designer 1. Since they have come out with the USB upgrade for the designer that puts us all in the same playing field. I hope that you can learn from some of our answers. The SE also offers you some of the features of the software on the machine. you can mirror image, and re-size, plus move the design or rotate. Go to the Husgvarna site and read up on the machine - I know that you would love it.

I have the SE Limited and the basic 4D software (which I don't know much how to use-LOL, but had to have it). I love the machine .. for years I've always bought Husqvarna. I just bought the 5x7 hoop it's so great for in-between sizes. I would love the diamond only for the "huge" hoop so I wouldn't have to split designs-which of course I haven't done yet-so afraid. I especially love that you actually have some of the 4D features right on the machine, so you don't always have to use softwarw-via computer and save to USB stick, and no more jump stitches to cut-Yeah!! Love that you can jump to a particular stitch count w/out having to advance through the WHOLE design. and so many other features ..Good luck and let us know what you do. *4u

thanks so much. So do you really need to purchase the 4D software?

I have had a Designer SE for a year now and love it! You may want to be sure to get one with USB connectivity. It connects directly to your computer. That way you can pull the designs directly from the computer. No more floppy disks and reader cards. You will probably still get a memory stick but I rarely used mine. You should be able to get a good deal on a gently used one now because of trade-ups on the new Designer Diamond. My dealer had SE's that were used less than a year. Yes, I also would suggest the 4D Extra software.

thanks, did you get all the 4D software?

clawton by clawton 06 Sep 2008

I got the 4D Extra software not the 4D Professional version. The professional version was too expensive for my budget. I haven't really used the Extra version to it full potential. But I really like it much better than the 3D.

I agree with bikermomfl. I have the same maachine as she has. I still have to get my 5x7 hoop but I do love what mine will do. ONly need time to use it now. I have the 4D extra and of course it will do about everything which i have to learn to use. Good luck in what ever you decide.

not sure what you have now but I have the designer 1 usb and absolutely love it. I can't think of anything I want it to do that it can't or won't do. I've added the 5x7 hoop and the mini hoop, a couple of special 'feet' and of course the quilters set. I don't think I could live without the walking foot now that i have it. It makes sewing thick bulky things a real dream. One of my hubby's students has the se and loves hers. Be sure to get some type of software for your 'puter so you can convert all these wonderful freebies our ladies pass on. I have the 4D embroidery and it does all I need it to. it was about $200 but got a deal when I bought my machine so check that out when you get your new baby as well. Good luck and happy sewing.
