WOW, you sure did open a thread nest, here. I never spent so much time at one question. *4U.
Thanks for asking this, good information to know. I throw away all my clippigs.
I absolutely can not save thread clippings. One of the few things I can throw away without feeling guilty. Don't even give me ideas. I am a pack rat by nature. I even used to save all the little scraps of fusible interfacing and leave them nest to my ironing board for small facings. I save selvedge edges of fabric to tie up tomato plants since I no longer have old panty hose. I still love you cuties, but I refuse to save thread clippings. Besides most of them are wound around the beater bar of my vacuum cleaner.
Aw come on katydid, we do not to have a fetish without being able to pass it around!! Hugs and a flower.
Please just do me the favor when you do start saving them (because I know it is now niggling at you) please please please tell us what you have in store for them! *
Girls, you're killing me here!!! Beautiful cards, beautiful organza applique designs, there aren't enough hours in the day!! That "Threads of Friendship" bookmark looks like a real winner for me. Although, JoFrog's idea of snips in a glass jar is really appealing at the moment. And yes, Lillian, it was your turkey coaster I was remembering, just not so well, I guess. I deserve a gold star for remembering it was 'something' at all, hee hee hee. Now that it's been cooling off here in northwest PA, USA a little bit, I feel much more like sewing. If the grass would stop growing & I could get off the lawnmower, maybe I would get at the machine. Great sites, thanks, luv to you all, Marji
They are shining in a covered glass jar on my dresser. I've always thought that I might get a lamp with a clear bottom to put them in. Sure make a statement! I cannot bear to throw them away.
Marji, Me toooo!! I need more hours in a day. I have to many ideas, and not enought hours, wish I did not need to sleep HaHa!! Hugs and aflower.
There's lots more here than just that, but for the thread useage-other than it looks neat in a glass jar- go to Free designs on the left hand side, then Organza.
Jofrog, I am going to be busy checking out all these wonderful ideas out. Hugs and aflower.
I have a couple "rats nests" I sure would love to know what to do with! The bookmark that Sira posted is gorgeous, I saved it to favorites for a later date to purchase. I am thiking of combining Siras bookmark pattern with sllakin card design and making a card, lol look out cuties I will soon be asking for greeting card advice! * for a great question.
Misscharlie, That is why I love it here, we can ask away, and get so much help and many wonderful ideas. Hugs and aflower.
I found this site some time ago and I liked this idea: a bookmark which has your "all" threads end. I couldn`t get that direct link, but when you are in home page - choose from left: Singles and Page 3 ! And there that Bookmark is - clever idea. *4U
Thank you Sira, I will check and see what new ideas are there. Hugs and a flower.
Was not something posted in tips on what one can use thread clippings for?lbrow embroidered a gorgeous turkey. It is somewhere in projects.
how do you have left over thread? I use mine down to the spool. Now what do you do with the spools? I hate to throw anything away that might be useful.
The grangkids might like to play with the empty spools. Not so much left over threads as thread clippings I think.
Bikermon, It is the clippings I have left over when I change threads. I always clip near the spool and pull it from the needle, so that is quite a bit of thread. Mpo is right, string spools together and a fun toy for little ones. Hugs and flowers.
U may b talking about the turkey I did filled with thread snips dimds. i was a coaster & I posted a couple of them with instructions on how to do it. *4U type n turkey coaster n search & see if it comes up
Yes, lbrow it was you that told us what we could do with thread clippings. Thanks again, I will check this out. Hugs and aflower.
You can tie it all together with teeny tiny knots that will go thru the eye of the needle and get some really fantastic varigated colors. JUST KIDDING, but I'll be interested to see what others come up with. I saw somebody use it in an applique design, think it was of a girl with applique skirt. She used tulle for the material, and before sewing it down put snips of embroidery thread of all colors in it, it was really pretty. I think it was posted in projects quite some time ago, if you go hunting for it. Good luck! Marji
that's bad, but real funny .. can you see me now - going blind real fast ..LOL ..
Marjialexa, Thank you, I have always liked Sylvester, now he always has extra flowers for all. HaHa!! I will have to find time to recheck projects. Hugs and aflower.
I don't know what the original answer was but I use my leftover thread for creating "sewing" greeting cards. You punch holed in cardstock using a needle and then go in and out of them to create lovely designs!
Here is link to some free designs in case you are interested:
