Is there something you can put on your needle when you are using sticky stabilizer to keep the "icky sticky" off the needle? I am slowly going nuts stopping and starting and rethreading...

I prefer fusible stabilizer or use a spray that says that it does not gums the neddle.

welcome Mel, glad to have you here. You will love this site. In response to your question, I have only used sticky stabilizer a couple of times and was not very happy with results. One, it was hard to hoop and poke pin all around and peel away top portion. Second, it didn't stand up to a dense design and I had to float another piece of stabilizer under the hoop. I know if you bought a roll, you don't want to waste it, so use up on projects like red work or very light density projects. I love titanium needles by Organ and it didn't stick to them. You can but them at Allstitch LLC. phone 410-646-0382. I'll post web site.

If you want to try something else, get some double sided tape and put it on the back of the fabric & stick it to the hooped stabilizer...just be sure it's out of the design area! There's actually some sewing double sided tape, but I just use plain ole Scotch double sided! It pulls off easily. If your machine will do a "fix" or baste in the hoop, be sure and do that as that will also hold it to the stabilizer.
I clean my needles, if needed, with alcohol on a Q-Tip...or even on a paper towel!

sounds a lot like the problem I have when sewing on those pretty sequined fabrics, gunk builds up on the needle. I've been using a q-tip dipped in finger nail polish remover and it works great but still a pain in the butt. I also haven't used the sticky stabilizer, haven't needed it that I know of. Good luck all the ladies (and gents) here are terrific when you need help, welcome to the familyl.

Excellent question. I haven't found the need to use any sticky stuff. But when I do, I'll know what to do. *4U

Mel, you obviously had a reason for using the sticky stabiliser, perhaps if you tell us what you were attempting we could give you some alternatives to use.
Would basting stitches have been any help to you?
If so, please email me with your hoops' internal measurements, horizontal & vertical, and your format and i will create a set for you. Emad is in profile. hugs n roses and welcome to the Cute Family, Meganne

mel08, wleocme to the 'cute' family - I would say - don't use the sticky stabilizer - I avoid it - but if it is all you have - try the methods that the other's have suggested. Please let us know what worked for you. *4U

No problems with 505 spray.

If you use a good quality iron stabilizer, your needle should not get sticky.

That should be iron on stabilizer.

If using a spray try 505 Spray and Fix or read label well to get one that says "does not gum needles" This brand does not have an odor so it doesn't smell up the house. I got mine from All Stitch Embroidery since I couldn't find it locally.

Mel, I also had this problem - found I was using toooo much spray and not giving it enough time to set before I placed the fabric on the stabilizer. Then let this have a little more time to set before sewing. Has cut down on the amount of "icky sticky" on my needle. But, if I see "gunk" collecting on the needle I wipe it off with a little Sewer's Aid on a tissue or cotton square. Do not have to worry about removing the sewer's aid it just helps the needle slide through the fabric. Hope this helps, if you have any questions please ask me. I probably did not describe this as well as I should have. Welcome to the "Cute Family", great group of people!!!!!! *4U sue

Oh dear Already have SADD do U Welcome to the cute fmly mel. very proud to have u. I do not use the sticky stabalizer for the very reason U r complaining of. When I tried it. I kept some Wd40 by me would spray a little on a scrap , wipe the needle to get the gummy off the put a little rubbing alcohol on a scrap & cleaned the WD40 off. Now U know why I do not use it. didn't take but 2 tries for me to say never again. again welcome to what I think is the best site on the Internet. *4U
