Hello Cuties, I finally am taking time to give an update about my wrist and catch you up on happenings. First the wrist. I saw the orthopedic doctor a week ago. I was so shocked when I saw how my hand was off set to my wrist/arm that I got nauseous. The bones knitted back like that because I couldn’t have surgery because my osteoporosis is so bad. The dr I saw the day I broke it showed my dr the X-ray and both drs thought the orthopedic needed to reset it the next day. However, they splinted it and the orthopedic doctor said the bones were jammed together and it would be ok. I was concerned but he is the specialist. I can only assume that bc my bones seem to break easily, that resetting my break another, such as my elbow or shoulder that was broken before. I don’t know but after a few days of my own pity party, my husband said I would just have to accept it and work with it as is. I know he’s right and I am thankful it did hold together and mend. I can’t quite make a tight fist but I’m getting there. I am using it trying to get the wrist flexible again bc it is so stiff. My daughter and granddaughter in-law are both physical therapists but Ashley said I need occupational therapy. My neighbor down the road is a friend of Ashley’s and she said she would call Jami to just come over and evaluate me and recommend some exercises. I told Ashley the dr said just work it and come back in 3 weeks but he wanted to see improvement. I guess if the wrist is still stiff, he will order therapy then. Well, enough said.

Second, since I’m supposed to use it, after my ‘pity party’ I told my husband what I wanted to do was try to sew, of course. I was on a quilt for an Air Force veteran at the time of my fall. With my husband’s help we got the fabrics cut out and I sewed it together. The fingers work good but I don’t have any strength to hold weight. (Sunday I tried lifting a lid off a pot so I could stir with the good hand but I had to drop it on the countertop. However, yesterday I could do it so I am improving) I managed to finish the top and turned it in for quilting Saturday before we had a Quilts of Valor award ceremony. I will show it after it’s quilted so you can see how Lynn’s quilting makes it shine- lol
We laid my husband’s oldest brother to rest yesterday. He was 96. He had dementia so we felt like we lost him some time ago. He had a good full life. He filled many roles over the years but most importantly, was a godly man. When my children were growing up we camped almost every weekend and Quince & Bertha camped with us, pulling their own camper.
I always had the camper packed and ready when my husband and kids came home from school. All he had to do was back up to the camper to hook on. I remembered one time I told my husband I was tired and we just needed to go straight to the creek. Normally we would stop by Quince’s and we would help them finish loading what they would bring. And they brought everything but the kitchen sink!-lol
I complained and said I loaded clothes and supplies for five and was ready so I wasn’t helping them that just had to load for two. Well, needless to say all my gripping didn’t matter. We pulled in at their house.
Quince was in the yard but was on my side of the truck so he just walked up to my window that was down. Ashley was about 5 or 6 years old and she was sitting on my lap. This was a full seat truck and we were squeezed in.
Anyway, Quince puts an arm on my window so he right there close when my husband asked if they were ready. When Quince replied no, they still needed to load some things Ashley blurts out, “Mamma said well she ain’t helping y’all cause y’all never ready!” I wanted to hide!
Quince was always a teaser so he just replied, “Shore ‘nuff, Mamma said that. What else did mamma say?” To which everyone laughed and I know I was as red faced as the day was hot!-lol- it wasn’t from the heat of the day either!
Eva has finished her first year of college and will be flying home the first of June for two months. She will return for her second year then. We just celebrated her 19th birthday.
Nora’s foot has healed and she is back into dance. Declan (3) caught his first fish which Dalton videotaped and sent to us. He’s such a sweetheart! Rylan & Gus are playing baseball on the same team this year. Marsha aka Nae and Richard hosted Mother’s Day BBQ this year. It was also Dalton’s birthday and Nae & Richard’s anniversary, so 24 of us celebrated it all. The younger ones enjoyed the pool while the older visited.
After Richard’s family left, we played two games of Farkle which Eva and Nora won and a game of Phase 10 ended with Richard the winner. I think I may have been in last place, but it was our first time to play. I do like the game though.
Well, I guess this is more than you had time to read-lol- but I haven’t posted in a while. Maybe since I’m starting to feel better, I can start my 50th quilt for QOV I had plans for so look for it in the not too near future. -lol-I’m not moving as fast as I’d like to.
I hope this finds all of you well and that you’re either sewing or embroidering a little everyday. ❤️Toogie

Glad you are making progress. As someone else implied, you get more done injured than I do on a usual day. Lol

Were you ever diagnosed with ADD? LOL (No offense to anyone meant.) You've been busier than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
Your motivation puts me to shame. I alway love to see what you are "up to".

Not ADD but my sewing friend says I’m OCD when it comes to sewing-😉😂

It was with great pleasure to hear from you, and see you are up and running. Well, perhaps running is a little over the top. "G" Really missed your lovely chats about the family and your patchwork.
Just because you are feeling a little better no racing around trying to catch up, you know the saying slowly, slowly, catches the monkey.

I have never heard this saying, but it does make sense. It is fun to learn of sayings from different parts of the world. You are right though, no racing for me-lol- As I said, I am working on some quilt blocks again. The first day nine made. Yesterday made eleven more, so little by little I am getting there.

Nice to hear from you again. I hope your wrist keeps improving. You are lucky to have a hubby to help you cut out pieces for your quilts. I would not dare let mine try. LOL Sorry about your brother in law. Sounds like he had a great life. Keep enjoying time with your family. Love & Hugs

I had to laugh when you said, 'I would not dare let mine try'. Actually, I do the cutting, he holds my rulers in place, so they don't slip. I never did have too much strength in my hands but me holding a ruler with one hand while cutting with the rotary cutter just doesn't work. My ruler most always shifts a little. Thanks about everything. Movements are improving daily.

Oh Toogie I pictured him cutting away at your lovely fabrics. lol. Great help though with holding the rulers. I don't think my hubby would have the patience to do that,

Shirley, I think he relates to sewing like I relate to carpentry. It's all math and cutting pieces to fit. I like carpentry bc the wood doesn't move like fabric does, but it's just a lot heavier.-lol I helped him build our house and other projects and he helps me by just holding the ruler. He tells my friends I won't let him cut or iron. I tell them that's why, he IRONS instead of pressing and stretches my bias pieces!-lol Cutting is another matter, he's left handed and I know some quilters are. I tell him if pieces are cut accurately, the blocks won't go together accurately. I guess I just don't trust him to cut-lol But I do let him cut the bottom edge of my hair- The first time he did though, when I saw that left elbow go up instead of down to cut I had misgivings. It all turned out well though and so he continues to trim the bottom edge. I haven't been to the hairdresser in years, but if my wrist doesn't start rotating better so I can cut it, I will need to.

should have read' I tell him if pieces are NOT cut accurately'

I guessed that is what you meant to say.

It's so good to hear you are progressing. Osteoporosis is a nasty condition to have. It may have slowed you down, but you keep on living as normally as possible. Enjoy your leafy greens and calcium. Hugs and I think you deserve a medal for managing to be starting your 50yh quilt for Veterans. Add to that number the quilts you have made, finished or refurbished and I think you deserve to be in the Guinness book of Records. Thanks for catching us up on the family events. Hope Avery and every other family member including you remain whole and healthy.

Yes I have made over 100 if you count my other quilts. We ( hubby and me) just cut out 187 small pieces for 11 more 6.5 inch Stars. I will sew them while he goes to another funeral of a friend of his family. That will give me 20 stars but I will still need 28 more!

Toogie, I'd say you are doing a great job with a difficult situation! I think that is the "Mom" in us. Please don't overdue - you have a lovely family, I know who will continue to help you! Loads of hugs to you and continued prayers!!

Update. Well now I have been able to sit and quietly read your activities. As ever your life sounds so fun, full and busy. Toogie you cannot keep a good woman down and inspite of all happening with your wrist you have worked out how to sew. I laughed out load at your story with Ashley telling Quince what you had said. Yes I am sure your face was red but... I am sorry your husbands ledest brother has died and I have had a few say that they said goodbye to friends and family twice, once when the dementia took a big grip on them and eventually when they died. Keep remembering the good times and pleas, please keep up your keeping us updated. And take care

We had some good times with Bertha and Quince whether it was camping, fishing/boating, card games ( when Quince would get little Ashley to tell him who had the rook card😉), traveling, etc. was always fun times.
