Hi Cuties ! Two ladies in my sewing group picked up some fat quarters and two panels in kits. The panels were 9 pictures that seemed to need cutting apart.

Lady number one made hers, but wasn’t too happy with what she had done. Lady number two didn’t wanna try, so it was passed to me along with a picture sq from #1 that she didn’t use.
Anyway, I saw a child’s quilt that was a large print or picture square with an alternate large 4 Patch. The blocks were 10.5 in the pattern, but I wanted 12.5.
My picture blocks were 10.5 so I had to frame it with the narrow blue and cut my 4p sqs 6.5 instead of the 5.5 in the pattern. I started laying it out and thought it lacked ‘something’.
Laying in bed I thought, I’d make a big star in the center out of some of the fat quarters. I had to piece the corner square in the background of the Star, as I only had one fat quarter that color. I don’t think it is noticeable though. Anyway, I am more pleased since adding the Star. I also wanted to insert red bc sure was a lot of blues.
This will go to a veteran. I have an Air Force vet on my list that may get it, although it has planes it also has ships for Navy, tanks for Army, etc That is why I’m calling this quilt Forces United.
It will be passed on to another member that will quilt it, then pass it back to me, for finishing with binding.

All of these quilts are a tribute to the men/women who served us all. My Dad was a lifetime Army man. I wished I had known all he went thru in WWII. He wouldn't talk about it. It wasn't until shortly before he died that I found a picture of him in the Air Force too. His 3 brothers were all in Air Force. When I asked him about it he just bubbled up nearly crying and couldn't talk. I didn't press further. I wished all of America had given more tribute to these brave men and women. You are doing such a fine fine thing---love you for that. Your quilts are wonderful.

You words are very touching. I wish I would have started quilting when my dad was alive. He served too, along with some of my uncles, his brother's body brought home. I would have loved to have presented my dad with a quilt of valor. Thank you for sharing about your family.

What a beautiful quilt for a special Vet. I agree, the star is perfect. Thanks for the countless hours you have given to a special group of folks who have given so much for their country.

I and the others love doing all the sewing for our guys and gals. It is nothing, compared to what they have given, but we want them to know how appreciative we are. We love our servicemen and women, retired or active.

The "pops" of red in the borders and squares really adds to the look of this quilt. I love how you made it work.

Thanks Sharon, I agree the 'pop' really adds interest, otherwise it was pretty mundane or dull looking.

Thank you for always supporting my efforts. I know this one doesn’t have the wow factor as the 54-40, but each one is unique and I couldn’t let those panel pictures go to waste.
