Hello Cuties! I don’t remember if I told you about our newest organization we are donating quilts too. The organization has summer camps for foster kids. They are in need of lightweight quilts for the bunks , for children ages 6-12.

This is the first quilt top I have made for this organization. A very easy and quick pattern. I didn’t know what to make, with this Superhero fabric, so I looked for a 2 color pattern and found this free pattern to cut out yesterday. I also had the red and really didn’t want to buy any fabric. The pattern was a free download from fabric fulling it’s destiny called 2 color interpretation, I guess. I omitted the last two rows, but I added a 4 inch cut border to bring it to 58 x 74. I will be quilting it myself, after I get batting and backing, with just a free hand meander.

Today was my regular sew group day and when I got home, I had a package with fat quarters and other nice pieces someone sent me, to make more tops for these foster children. It’s a project neat and dear to both our hearts. Mine because I had cousins raised by foster families years ago. When my first cousin divorced, she left all 5 kids with him. As a working man it was hard for him to get help in those days so the cousins went to foster care.
I will be posting as I make them but this is the first of these. I have 4 more QOV to make right now, too. Thanks for looking and commenting on my work. -Toogie

Ps - Am feeling back to normal, or what is my normal (lol)- thank you for prayers and concerns. ❤️to you all- Toogie
Ps2- There is a reason I am showing you the backside or wrong side of my top. We always have Show & Tell at our meeting of anything we’ve made since we last met. One lady had showed hers, before I got there and said she was glad I hadn’t seen it and winked. I heard her and I asked her why she didn’t want me to see. She showed me then and the top looked good. It looked good until she showed her seams. There were ravels hanging everywhere!
I would never have said a word about anyone’s sewing but since we were both joking around I said, ‘Oh Roann, I can’t stand that!’ She laughed and said she knew I couldn’t is why she hated me to see. I told her, if the seams are raveling now, they will continue to ravel with washing and using.
I know no one ‘sees’ the inside once it’s layered and quilted but I edge finish because I don’t want my work to be in vain. I don’t want someone to have to repair open seams later on or worse, discard the quilt, because of needing repair.
I’m not saying my way is the right and only way or someone else is wrong. I’m saying this is why I do what I do. I was always taught to edge finish seam allowances. Bought items are edge finished usually with a serger today.

My goodness, you really get these done fast and they look so good. I am like you. I don't like raveled edges and serge or zigzag when I can unless I break what quilter's used to teach and that is a 'scant' 1/4 inch seam. I use full 1/4 inch seams, try picking out [if I am buying the fabric] the most stable cottons. I don't even like those jellyroll things with the pinked edges--part of the seam allowance is taken away although that was the old time way of finishing edges also. Guess I am a bit rebellious. This quilt you say is easy but looks oh so hard. Great job.

Wow! Toogie, all your quilts are superb and no wonder everyone is thrilled to receive one from you. Your finishing off of the fabric is first class and such a great idea so as not to allow the seams to unravel.

Glad you are feeling better and back to almost your 'normal' self. Love Chris

P.S. I've been sewing Taylor Swift designs for Dana and Casey (they are down in Sydney for Taylor's concert tonight (Saturday)). My goodness that was a mammoth effort and thanks to Meg I got the designs finished in time on the jumpsuits that Dana gave me.

Why do our grown kids do this to us? Last minute used to be the week before Halloween to buy fabric and pattern and make a costume. I told them I need more notice so the last minute stuff has pretty much stopped. You and Meg did well. Congratulations!

Thank you, we all win. The child gets a tangible reminder of their camp days and a reminder that someone does think of them. I get to sew, quilt, and give, all the things that I love to do. It’s a win-win situation.

The child won’t have to give it up. I found out yesterday each child will have his / her name embroidered on the backs before quilting and when they leave their quilt goes with them.

Toogie I am glad to see you are back to your usual self. I am coming to the conclusion that you have a very large stash of fabric that you are able to go to when you start a quilt for others. I love seeing what you make. Take care and happy quilting with this lovely quilt

I’m glad to be back and feel better. I just bought both of these fabrics not long ago. The Spider-Man, Hulk etc fabric was clearance at Walmart but the red from Hobby Lobby was 40 % off.
