Hello Cuties, I have been wanting to make this throw pillow cover, so today was the day! My sister is going home soon and I wanted to make her this before she goes. I just don’t have a pillow form so I will either have to make a pillow myself or she will have to pick up one herself. I pieced little scraps of fabric and thought I had figured that the blue pieces would be under the red heart. Well that didn’t work out-lol

I ironed Heat & Bond the reverse shape of the state to the back of the fabric, then trimmed out the shape. After pressing the state onto the white 18 inch square, I stitched all around the outer edge with a straight stitch before sewing a really close black zigzag satin stitch. The heart I appliquéd by embroidery machine and also the word home.
I quilted a close stipple on the back gingham and also on the white on the front piece, after sewing an outline stitch around the state. I then trimmed my front and back both 18.25 inches.
My zipper wasn’t long enough so I had to piece one end with fabric and I should have used black instead of the gingham. It’s on the bottom so I may leave it in case she comes tomorrow.
So I know now I can do this I think I’ll make Lanie one for her birthday in March. I am pleased but I wish I would have had pretty fabric scraps like the lady showing hers. I put a piece with ladybugs bc my sister likes them. I also sneaked in a tractor ( almost lost it in the seams), bc she also drove the tractor in the field when it was harvest time. She was nine years old, so I was five. I wanted to put a cow piece in bc we both milked cows when I was a little older, but my cow was a kid’s fabric cow and I didn’t think it would look good. Anyway this is for my sister, just because.
Hope you like it. I think she will. Wishing you all a good night, for me anyway, or a good day, whatever the case.❤️Toogie

I love the details of why certain scraps were chosen. This is a beautiful and heart warming gift, full of memories and sisterhood. Did you freehand the state shape or were you able to find a shape? Great gift.

I had to free hand machine stitch around the state shape, but I traced the outline shape itself, from a state shape off the internet. I hope I answered what you meant.
We dropped by her place last night, but I didn’t have it with me, so she hasn’t received it yet. Thanks

That's great! I know it must have been fun to rummage in your stash for pieces of fabric for this and through your memories.

Thanks J, the scraps always seem to be close at hand but when I saw a piece that reminds me of childhood, I wanted to include it. She will notice, I am sure. When she opened her Christmas presents from us she loved the PJ’s with the dogs on them. She has 2 Yorkies. She thanked us then and text us later, how soft they were and the little dogs on them too, thanking us once more.

When I showed her a picture of a pillow like this with Louisiana, she liked it. I told her then I couldn’t make her one bc I wouldn’t know which state to make, La, Arkansas or Missouri. She asked, what about Texas? I said well currently you don’t have a home in Texas! We did live there a long time ago though.

Very nice and your sister is sure to love it. Not just because it’s her home state, but also that you made it for her “just because”. Those are the most treasured gifts.

Yes, I want to surprise her. We don’t get too many of those anymore-lol- when she was here we reminisced about our sister we lost. I don’t get to see this one as often as I’d like. I could have made an Arkansas, Missouri or Louisiana bc she currently has homes in all three states! She is renting out the house in Arkansas but she lives in the other two. We used to joke with her when she said she was going home, we would say, ‘Which one?’-lol
