Hi Cuties, I just thought I’d show you we finally got to go pick up pecans but not where we were supposed to go the day of hubby’s accident. Hubby don’t mind shelling and he’s shelled 2 quarts bags since last night. The ones on the sheet represent two 5 gallon buckets. We got these picked up Wednesday before a rain.

The second picture of them on the porch, is what we went back and picked up yesterday, 2 more buckets. The guy called us yesterday morning wanting us to come back because the wind and rain knocked a lot more down. This guy was a teacher at school when we worked there and later the mayor of our small village. I used to pick his sons up on my bus route, both in wheelchair. Anyway, they didn’t want any but didn’t want them to waste on the ground or attract a bunch of squirrels.
We had to spread them out to dry, after hubby hosed the sand and dirt off, after the rains. They are not as pretty but still taste good, because we have had such a hot dry summer, so better than expected.

I found out what ‘flan’ is as Caroline referred in her comment. I googled! Imagine that-lol

We thought our time had passed to pick any but this guy wanted them picked up and we were more than willing. We love them too. I sprinkle them over plain vanilla ice cream and add a little bit of salt. Kinda like Butter Pecan ice cream taste, bc I don’t care for plain vanilla.

That reminds me so much of my daddy's trees. He had 2 large trees in front of his house in Oklahoma. I took my oldest grandson out when he was small, and daddy put him to work in the front yard with his "special tool", to roll on the ground and pick up the pecans. Daddy made the best pecan pies. I can't cook with them him. But Hubby loves them. We have a couple who are very allergic to them.
Daddy froze them too, and he had so many in his freezer in his wash shed when he passed.

I wish we had our own trees. Your dad’s place sounds like home. Dalton our nearly 25-30 yr old grandson😳 doesn’t like nuts at all. When Lanie his sister had such a bad reaction to shrimp they asked if she had any allergies to nuts and eggs. She eats those fine. If we are able to keep picking them up I suppose they will be sharing them again when we pass.

Yum!! I know it’s time consuming and a lot of work, but what a beautiful sight. Enjoy them in every way possible.

We all enjoy them even the kiddies. We give our 3 kids and Caleb’s wife a quart bag for the holidays. Then when they need any for something they let us know.-lol

Pies mostly here but the kids use them in candies. This will keep him busy awhile for sure. House is decorated and now we have pecans spread all over-lol

We share with our kids and grandkids that are married. We freeze them. They keep for years. We do make pecan pies, pralines, old fashioned fudge, sweet potato casserole, cookies, cakes, etc and yes as graceandham suggested, right out of your hand!-lol

I have only eaten them as I have opened them or as a flan. They tend to be expensive in the UK

Define flan please.
