I Toogie, I'm so sorry you have Shingles! It is awful, I had it right after Ben died. I couldn't do anything about it. The pain was so severe and so deep. I had had a vaccine, and I got it anyway, but they said I had a very light case! Get well soon!

You’re right about the pain being deep. I was imagining I must have breast or lung cancer because I hurt through and through. Thanks and glory to God the pain is so much better, that I can function again. I don’t like being laid up, I have too much I want to do to give in or give up!-lol

So do I Mops! I did feel much better today but couldn’t take the nerve pain meds as I can’t function on it. Makes me sleep all the time or drunk and I sure don’t want a fall. Yes there is a Shingles vaccine, been out a while but not sure how many years.

Today was so much better I actually finished my baby quilts. The last few days I was too drugged up to function. I didn’t take anymore of the nerve pain meds today but may at bedtime to help sleep. It makes me sleep day& night, but it does relieve the nerve pain.

My Dr. has suggested that I get the Shingrix vaccination soon even though I had a different one years ago. Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. Both diseases can be prevented through vaccination.

I have slept most of the time, since I went to the doctor. Haven’t taken any pain med today yet but will probably have to soon, trying to wait till nighttime closer to bedtime so I’ll sleep tonight. I can stand it for a while yet, but the pain is better due to meds.

313873I'm sorry that you are having so much pain. The people I've know to have had it said the same things you say. Can a topical med stop the itching? I did not know that nerve pain could last forever. I got the shot to prevent shingles years ago. I'd recommend it to everyone.

The itching is not too bad now it’s the pain, but meds help with that. I just am not functioning today. Sleeping off and on

My goodness, I just got up! It is 10:40!!! I went to sleep in my recliner last night watching TV , hubby didn’t wake me for bed. I woke up at one am and took my meds and went to bed. I slept until 10;40!!!! I’m so loopy I can’t tell you how I feel yet,❤️❤️❤️

You are right. The pain is the worse and is what made me go to the doctor. I think my pain level, I can endure, is pretty high having giving birth with no meds twice, but this is constant and wouldn’t end.
44810Sorry you are having to deal with this and praying that the medicine will give you relief. If it makes you sleep that is probably good for helping your body become stronger again.
I don't know how long shingles last but hopefully not long.

I think he said 4-6 weeks and if sleeping heals me then I’m on my way to recovery-lol-I must have slept almost 12 hours straight! The pain med makes me sleep. Probably too strong for me, idk.

That must be it. I had hurt my back during this time and was in severe pain. I’m trying to figure out the timeline but I have brain fog right now from medicine.

I’m not laughing because I told my husband I dreaded putting on a bra to go to doctor. As soon as we came home off it went. Can’t stand anything to touch me in those places.
I cut and pieced two baby quilts last week while I was breaking out. I think it was because hubby pushed me to do.
66506Darn it. I so hoped it would not be shingles. It reminded me that I have to get my 2nd vaccine for shingles. I had the first one and when the second one became available Covid hit and I did not want to go to any medical facility. A few month ago I did get shingles but it was fairly mild.
Toogie I pray that the nerve pain will not be permanent and that the meds will make it a bit more tolerable.

Go get your vaccine. I text one of my husbands sister and told her if they hadn’t got their shingle vaccine , don’t put it off like I did. Go get it! I don’t want anyone to be like this.

Oh Shirley, dr told me to wait till tonight and start pain med because it would probably make me drunk and sleepy. I couldn’t wait so I took it about 5:30 . I finally slept and felt like I had slept all night. When I woke I was confused and drunk. I’m not used to taking ANYTHING and when I have to, it doesn’t take much to make me feel loopy.

Started meds, don’t have much choice about pain med. if I don’t take it there is the pain if I do I’m loopy/ drunk. I don’t know if I can function like this but don’t want the pain.

As soon as it’s safe Hubby and I will take the shingles vaccine. Wish I’d have taken it before but easy to forget and put it off.
114324Hi all you other Cuties reading this. If you ever had chicken pox, you are set up to get shingles, so go get that vaccine now, before the pain begins. I think my insurance paid for it all after a certain age, but worth getting it even if you have to pay before then, because I certainly got shingles before then! If it gets near and in your eyes, you can go blind. Now, really, go get that shot!

Please pay attention to graceandham. I too have heard that if you get the rash around your head, it can affect your eyes and cause blindness. Even if that doesn't happen, they can be extremely painful.

Yes, Noah’s aka Carolyn had in his eyes! I can’t imagine his pain. I hurt through and through from my chest to my back. Feels like had to breathe like something on my chest. Then pain will go to my arm. 😑😩😭

18074Toogie, I had Shingles a month ago for the first time ever (back of my neck and my left ear). I send you my best and hope it is just a rash. Take whatever meds they decided you need!!!! My doctor had my husband pick up a cream from a Compound Pharmacy. Insurance wouldn't pay for it - but, it helped me a bunch and it was worth every penny! Make sure you get extra rest - I was very tired and that surprised me. I will be getting the shingle shot soon!! Bunches of hugs to you!!

109762Oh toogie, I sincerely hope not. It is so painful! I had in Aug last yr..dr said trauma can bring it on. I had just found my best friend dead in her bathrm. ASAP, I got the shot..$150, and returned 3 times for the second shot, but was told each time the serum was not available. Finally this past May I had to start all over..the cost had gone to $175. I assure you, it would be worth $1,000. Not to have shingles again. It settled in neck and shoulder where I had had surgery..that made it worse. I was in terrible pain for several wks. I pray you have a light case, if it is diagnosed. Better still, I pray it will not be shingles. Good luck!
