I have a question for all of you who make beautiful quilts. I cut out the batting and backing or the hand embroidered lap quilt today and I have a piece of batting about 3 feet by 2 feet left over. I hate to toss out such a nice piece, but have no idea of what I can turn it into. It does have some synthetic in it so the wonderful microwave bowl protectors are not appropriate. Any ideas?

The minute you throw it out, you'll probably need it!!! At least, that's what happens to me. So, keep it or use it for some of the wonderful suggestions!

I will not throw out that piece. I actually have a huge bolt of batting that I share with the 3 teens I gave the machine so it will be used. I am so pleased with all of these suggestions. It proves yet again what great community we belong to.

Ladies you have come up with some wonderful ideas, I was going to offer some suggestions but you have covered them all and some which l can add to my repertoire of uses. I'm sure you have give some very useful ideas to many others too.
To our wonderful moderator I have to say how very beautifully you responded to each and every suggestion, reflecting what a kind and loving person you are.
PS: I too understand the joys of vertigo without the help of drugs.

I figured my question could help others too. I'm so delighted with all of the suggestions. Thanks for saying I am a kind and loving person. I can say the same about you with your Post. I'm so sorry to hear you suffer with vertigo also.

You know how some plastic garden pots have big drainage holes they leak potting mix ?I have started to put small batting offcuts in the pot bottom before filling the pots.

I bet it is lovely! Can you cut squares and use the batting to make a quilted pillow or two? You are right - you have to use something like Wrap N Zap for bowl koozies. I would love to see your lap quilt! Hugs, Laura

Nice idea. The lap quilt is called 'Footsteps' and was bought from Amazon. I managed to get it pinned so little by little it is starting to look like a finished product. It takes me a bit longer to do things thanks to my chronic vertigo but I'm getting there.

How about a quilt for a doll. I just finished one about that size to go with a bed for a new great granddaughter. Bed is a long basket with handles to carry (or drag) it around. She is 1 year old and walking. This is her first "play with" doll from great grandma, a baby doll.

My cousin sent me a roll of Matilda Batting Joiner tape. It is so soft you can't even feel it. Join 2 straight edges together and all off cuts are useful again.
You can still make the bowl holders with it. I have some that I just use to put a bowl of hot food in for hubby to hold comfortably but cover hasn't been in the microwave.

And I need some new place mats. I wasn't sure how well the batting would stand up to washing. Thanks for the ideas.

I save all the extra pieces of batting when I sew up a quilt. I like to use them for table runners and other smaller items. You can sew pieces together with a zig zag stitch. I do this to make baby quilts ets. Don't waste any of it.

Baby bibs would be good.
Also, you can sew two or more pieces together.

Add a layer of Insulbrite (sp?) to the batting and use it for hot-pads

02kar by 02kar 11 Dec 2020

Thanks for these great ideas. Can't wait to finish the projects I have started to start using up more of my bolt of batting.

You can also piece batting. I don’t do it often but have butted it up and zigzagged a wide zz to hold it together without overlapping though.

02kar by 02kar 11 Dec 2020

I couldn't bear to throw this away but my vertigo brain just couldn't come up with ideas. You have helped give me an ah ha moment. thanks.
