Giving my poinsettia 15 hours a day in a cupboard has certainly started to work. The leaves are starting to turn red.

UPDATE 3 WEEKS LATER
My poinsettia is coming along nicely. Still having 15 hours a day in darkness.

They are beautiful. Well worth the time in the cupboard! I've never tried to do this!

I should have repotted and cut the stems lower. Well worth trying. I will certainly do this again.

Your husband needs to admit you have to be doing something right. Look at your results, a very pretty poinsettia for the holidays. Someone just gave me a bird of paradise in with other plants. Needless to say, I forgot to water before my trip, didn't think to get hubby to water and by the time I returned the bird of paradise had shriveled up. The other plants are surviving though.

DH thinks I am quite mad. It is a joy watching this plant visibly change. So sorry that your bird of paradise has died.

Excellent! I was given an orchid last Thanksgiving, and I have buds coming. Maybe they will bloom for this holiday, anyway my daughter was impressed. Made me happy. Lol!

Your plant looks really healthy and has a few new shoots so you are doing everything right.
Keep up the good work.

Wow! That's incredible to be able to carry them over from year to year. At my house they tend to be "disposable". :-(

I do not know about year to year. I think they might become a bit leggy

Super. I can't wait to see what they look like on Christmas. How long have you had the plant? I always manage to kill them.

You are too kind Kim. I am usually useless with indoor plants but this has fascinated me. Hopefully it will look good over Christmas

You need to read up about them. You can virtually see the colour changing every day
