Yummy! I love Vegemite and Marmite, too! Spread thin on hot toast is the best. Your fabric will be fun to work with. Avis

Glad you tried the Vegemite, I love a thin smear on hot toast, My children enjoy it too, but not my husband - "how can you eat that stuff" he says!

Yes it is an acquired taste but nice if you don't spread it on too thick.
So many other uses as you have been told. I like to put some in Ham and Pea soup when I am making it just gives it a nice kick.
Just a hint when you think the tube is empty put the opening in a glass of water squeeze the air out and then let the water get sucked in. Put the top back on and shake you will be surprised how much stock you have for cooking. I wouldn't keep it but use it that day.

Well John and i both tried it this morning he said he would rather have toast and jam lol
I didn't mind it at all but i like salty food So now you ALL KNOW *****Hugs

Glad you tried it, and as us Aussies all know you need to spread it thinly. I'm with John, I prefer Jam to Vegemite.
I do though like Marmite - as Caroline says it's not as salty as our Vegemite. Don't forget too Carolyn you can add it to soups, stews, casseroles etc. as a salt substitute.
Our Ophelie and Delphi like Tomato soup with a bit of Vegemite stirred into it. Happy eating! Love Chris

Here in the UK we have a similar product called Marmite. Marmite is less salty than Vegemite but both are made from yeast. Not having much knowledge on Vegemite I do know that Marmite is made from surplus yeast from the brewing industry. Either VorM is spread on bread/toast/ in a thin layer. Carolyn after you have tasted do let us know what you think of it. It is something that one likes or dislikes. Happy tasting oh and enjoy your purple fabric

Lucky Girl.
My favourite way to eat Vegemite is thinly spread on hot buttered toast or make a sandwich of Vegemite and tasty (matured) cheese.
Or on a slice of toast, with cheese on top, which is then grilled under the griller. Yummy!

My cats love to lick it straight off my finger and every dog I've ever owned has enjoyed toast and Vegemite.

You can also dissolve it in hot water, in a cup, with salt and pepper, like a Beef Tea Soup.
It is also great to add, (like you would a stock cube), to savoury meat recipes, meat loaf or meat patties (we call them rissoles).

Aussie kids are usually introduced to Vegemite before they can walk.

The only thing I ever eat if I have had a tummy upset, (with vomiting and/or diarrhoea), is dry (un-buttered) toast, with thinly spread Vegemite.

Not only is it the only thing I can keep down, but it is also very good for you, at such times. (Not a lot of people know about this use for it).

So I hope you enjoy it Carolyn and Kudos to Chris for sending it to you. :-)
hugs n roses, M

Carolyn and others, this is what we normally buy our Vegemite in it's a jar of about 560G. I see on the website you can get a 2.5kg plastic bucket but that would be used for cafeterias, school tuck shops, caterers etc. The big tub is $56.90 Australia dollars, but the little tube is only between $5 - 10.00 depending on where you buy it from. Love Chris

(The reason I sent Carolyn the Vegemite all stemmed from Trevor eating it on Christmas Day and Carolyn wanted to know what it was) I had posted a picture on here with it back when we were away!

Vegemite sounds like something Lucy was making on 'I love Lucy' show. Does it really give you energy? Maybe we all need some or at least I do-lol-I have never heard of this and to spread on toast out of a tube???
I know you will put that purple fabric to fast use. Nice of Chris to send it all with overseas postage being so costly. Enjoy!

Vegemite is a Yeast Extract. It has B1,B2,B3,Folate Vitamins & Salt.
You spread it on thinly. Example: Crispbread cracker , butter, vegemite x slice of cheese on top, it is a snack meal, or on toast. Yum....

have to agree with this. Just use sparingly. Nice on hot buttered toast and good when feeling 'off-colour' or a little bit sick.

We are this on our trip to Australia and I guess it is a acquired taste! We thought it was awful. Waiting to hear Carolyn's opinion.

meganne by meganne 16 Feb 2018

mrskiki, I bet someone told you to spread it on thick like Jam!!!!
It is an acquired taste just like that awful Dr Pepper that Americans like so much, which, (I thought), was disgusting! Same with Root Beer and Sarsaparilla. YUK!
TeeHeeHee! :-)

pennifold by pennifold 16 Feb 2018

Ha ha ha I love Sarsaparilla Meg. Mum said it reminds her of a flyspray we used to have in Adelaide when I was a little girl it was called "Flytox" or something like that. Mum says the smell is similar!!!!!! Love Chris

toogie by toogie 15 Feb 2018

So Shirley how is Vegemite usually packaged?

pennifold by pennifold 16 Feb 2018

It's in a glass jar normally, but for postage it's easier to post a plastic tube! Love Chris

shirley124 by shirley124 17 Feb 2018

I went into the grocery store when I was out yesterday and checked the Vegemite shelf and yes the tubes were there with the jars. Probably cheaper to buy by the jar. Hugs

Dear Carolyn,

I'm so glad it arrived safely and I can't wait to see what you will do with the Purple pieces of fabric. I know how much you love the colour too.

I know I've kept telling you to use the Vegemite very sparingly, as I don't want you to open it and spread it like jam! As I said in my PM's it's best spread thinly and especially nice on hot toast! Keep warm, love Chris
