Moral dilemma--I was looking on Etsy for some inspiration when I ran across an embroidery site that blatantly is violating copyright. At first, there were designs called Mr. Mouse, etc., but then this site had designs openly named Mickey Mouse, Princess Jasmine, Winnie the Pooh, and more. Do I complain to Etsy or sit back and let someone else do it?

WOW!!! I am sooo proud of these Cuties. i loved reading this post. I think a lot of people think, "let someone else tend to this, I don't have time!!!" But you didn't, Parkermom, and I am so happy Disney is taking it over!!! I am not good with words, but I am grateful for people with a conscience. We can usually tell when we see something that is copyrighted, so others can too!!! Hugs & Joy, Judy...

Thank you. I didn't even consider that if I had kist complained to etsy that my name and IP address would be out there.

I’m so glad your conscience got the better of you. I’m also happy to read that Disney replied. At least you know you’ve done the right thing and now Disney can chase it all up. 💕 Chris

I am glad I did it. And I'm glad that Disney replied.

Thank you for being brave and doing the right thing. I wish more of us did this. It would certainly make life more difficult for those who blatantly decide they are above the law.A high five and a big hug to you.

Thank you. I knew scammers were out there, but I really didn't want to believe how rampant it is.

So glad you took the approach you did. Why have the bad site have your name, screen name and IP address? Let Disney handle it. I understand they have a large, effective legal department.

I got a nice email back from Disney. They said that it is their policy to not disclose any details of their investigations. So I will never know, but I did the right thing. Thank you jrob for that link.

You might not will get the response from Disney, but if after a while you recheck the site and the items are gone, you know you did the right thing. We all want that someone take care of our work, Disney or a little bit less famouse

I'm reading it as soon as I post this reply. Thanks!

So this is what I did: I sent an email to the antipiracy address at Disney, and felt oh so virtuous. Then, I went to Etsy and did a search for Disney machine embroidery designs. There were almost 5,000 items! If you just search Disney, there are over half a million! It would never end.

Occasionally, the attorneys at Disney make a sweep of Etsy... Then many are removed -- even some users get removed.

I don't even bother with them----if I get Disney designs they are from Brother----most of the people I make things for don't even care about Disney designs----most of the designs I use are from sites that I have found with the help of Cuties----this is a great place to learn about ALL KINDS of embroidery topics!! GOD bless you!!

I have a Disney Brother, so I'm very careful. And you know, I've never had to purchase a Disney design that wasn't already on my machine.

The sad part is that most of these sites don't consider what they are doing as illegal because "the artwork is their own" Just because they drew the character themselves, does not give them the right to sell the design!

I can see people saying that exact thing. This site was sorted by princesses, etc. So blatant.

I see you said moral dilemma, if it was me I’d definitely tell them they are violating copyright and tell the powers that be what is happening.
It’s just not fair business trading by taking away business from digitisers. 💕 Chris

I still haven't decided whether or not to be a "pot-stirrer" But this person's site is almost totally devoted to Disney characters. With their own logo over the photo

Add to your dilemma by including the fact that the images were stolen. So instead of purchasing art with permissions to digitize and distribute designs, they are getting artwork they don't pay to use. Then on top of that, they are taking money away from those that choose to do their business legally.

Very shallow or money-hungry or uncaring. Or maybe a combination of all.

You. find MANY sites that have this. You'd have to sihut down the inter net to delete them all.

You can always spend your money elsewhere. Just think, of each of us took an active roll in cleaning up the theft on the internet, it would be better in a short time.

I didn't buy any designs from this site. I ran across another site later on today too.
