Or just a thought try overlocking ( serge it ) the Leather edge.

178465926I love that raccoon design you chose! He's very handsome! My older machine does not have all the feet that were made to work on newer and/or more difficult fabrics. If you have some scraps of this fabric, maybe testing different feet might help.
BTW...how many machines do you have? Are some of the feet interchangeable with the machine you used to do this?
