Hi,

I'm new to this site. Just given a Bernette 340 Deco .
I have a Mac laptop . How do I download embroidery designs to my Mac and transfer to a jump drive. Is there a free software I need on my Mac to do this?

Hi there, I have the same machine. You have been given good advice. I know nothing about Mac but I do know that my machine is not compatible with my iPad. I have to use my PC for all my machine work.

Sarah, thanks for letting me know of the transfer methods. Both will work and personally I think the usb port would be easiest to use as you don't need any other readers then for the pcmcia card. You should be able to download from the net straight to computer, transfer to a usb memory and then transfer on the usb into the machine. Sandra.

Check out Embrilliance. I believe they have a free trial at the very least. Welcome and enjoy your new hobby. Hugs. Nan W

Hi ! and welcome from another Aussie, I don't know too much about your machine, I have googled and found some have a usb port, some have a pcmcia card slot. ? which is yours and what would you use as this makes a difference to transferring. Yes you can download straight to a Mac, which i do ALL the time and no you don't need anything to do this. It will download straight to your computer downloads section , or you can choose to download to the desktop. Then you will transfer, copy and paste to your chosen usb jump drive or storage stick , if you use a pcmcia card you need to have a transfer station with a usb connection to your computer. If you have to use the second option. pm me and i can guide you through what to do and where to buy. I have two embroidery machines and use both of these methods to transfer design downloads from the internet to my computer and then to my machines. If I can help in any way let know. You will find many talented people here to help you on your way to becoming addicted to the wonderful world of embroidery. Someone is always around to help with any of your questions, so ask away. Hope you enjoy this cutie group, and we look forward to seeing your creations. Sandra.

Welcome to Cute & to the 'Bernina' Family! You can download the FREE BERNINA ARTlink 7 Software from the Bernina Website. I know it is definitely easily available on the South African website so not sure about the other Countries - This will assist you in transferring your designs from your computer to a jump drive/usb stick in the format that you need which is EXP for a DECO 340. This program automatically creates a folder (Emb) on your usb and writes/saves the files to this folder wherby your DECO will recognise them! Just remember to ALWAYS switch off your machine BEFORE removing the USB (& of course inserting BEFORE switching ON!)
The ONLY thing I am unsure about is your MAC but I am sure that you will find that info on the website BUT I am sure there is no harm in trying!
All the best & Happy embroidering!

I have Husqvarna sewing machines that require widows programs. But, I have mac computers. My DH found "paralles" program to be put into the Mac that can add windows explorer. It partitions the computer so both programs can be used. I have not had any problems using this. Good Luck and hope this helps.

Hello and Welcome to Cute!
I use a MAC for all my computing with the exception of my embroidery. I needed a PC to support my 6D software. That being said, I do download designs to my MAC (it has NEVER crashed - unlike my PC laptop which crashes repeatedly).

Designs downloaded on my MAC automatically unzip and the zip file is deleted right away with no effort from me (much easier than on the PC) . You only need to save whatever format that your embroidery machine uses - I believe in your case that would be ART. You can then drag the design onto your USB to be used in your machine.

Sorry, I don't know of any free software that can be used on a MAC, however, you might want to checkout the Embrilliance embroidery software - this is a MAC OSX and Windows compatible embroidery software program.

The "Thumbnailer" portion ($44.95 from the company) allows you to see what the design is - not just the string of numbers or letters that sometimes is all that labels a downloaded design. I would recommend this as a minimum.

The Embrillance Essentials package ($149) gives you the ability to resize, convert formats, combine designs, edit a design, add lettering, and more. The Thumbnailer is included with this program package.

I do have this program and wish it had been available before I bought the 6D - I would have saved thousands of dollars.

I hope this is helpful. And if I can help with anything else, please let me know. Hugs* Deb

A big Aussie welcome from me Rugby. I'm of no use either as I'm a Windows gal. I agree with what has been said below. As long as you have a USB that you can download your designs from your computer onto you should be right. I am assuming of course that you have a USB slot in your sewing machine. Most designs when you download go into the DOWNLOAD tab on your computer. I do hope someone comes along soon who has a MAC and can help you out. Good luck with it all and as Kim (dragonflyer) has said look at the Q&A section to find out how to navigate this site. Also anywhere the little hand symbol shows is something you can check out. We all give flowers to posts and you will notice that you now have 7, each time someone posts a question or a project just click on the flower at the right hand side of the post. Love Chris, Newcastle, Australia

Hi and welcome. I know nothing about your machine or using a mac but a quick google brought up the link below. Embrilliance softwear is used by some here and I remember good reviews about it so happy reading and hopefully happy embroidering too. Keep asking us the questions to get you up and running

Sweet that you have been given the Bernina! Unfortunately, I am of no help at all, although I think Angie (crafter 2243) is right about just downloading designs to a folder on your Mac and you know where that folder is..then just a matter of moving them onto a jump drive...hoping there is a Mac Cutie who will come along soon and be of more help...so glad you found our community...you will love it here...take a minute when you can and go through the Q&A (orange tab at the top of the site)...there is a lot of useful information on how this site works...Big welcome to Cute!!!

The advice used to be that Macs weren't embroidery friendly, although I think that has changed in the last two years. However, most of us are PC-oriented. Congratulations on your new machine and on finding us! It's a great site with lots of good information and perfectly digitized designs. I'm hoping someone comes along who can answer your question just right.

Welcome to our Cute site. I am not familiar with the Mac Laptop, but I am almost certain that you would not necessarily need a special program for what you are asking. It is however useful to have one. Hopefully some one will come around and help. You need to know where your downloads go to in your computer and then move the file from there to a USB. Sorry I am a Windows gal and of no help. Good luck
