Someone had asked about embroidering on leather or faux leather......this will be going on a car headrest and is leather......I did not use stabilizer or special needle, but have to remember that I use a 16 needle machine......

Was it a needle especially for leather? A friend asked me just this morning about embroidering on a faux leather purse/tote. I told her I hadn't done it. I didn't know if you had to have a special font for vinyl or if the fonts we use would perforate the vinyl as the stitches are so close. What is your thought or experience on this?

Hi Toogie.....I do not use any special needles, but mine is a commercial machine ...I would think if you have leather needle to use it.....I normally use a satin stitch on leather, but I had to enlarge this one too much for satin........

A leather needle cuts a triangular hole, useful for seams on thick leather, but the Husqvarba representative I know said never to use one for embroidery on thinner varieties - it might even cut out the enbroiderd piece. She recommends top stitch needles or just a sharp all purpose one. That worked well for me.

Mops are you stitching on a commercial machine or single needle for vinyl? I thought of buying a readymade tote I like but didn't want to stitch and have a big hole from where my design should be because it perforated and cut out the design as your instructor said.

I used a household machine, the Designer 1, and stitched on leather, a rather thin nappa. As far as vinyl goes I've only sewn it - with a large stitch, 3.5 to 4 mm - and never dared embroidering it.
