I'm making some placemats as presents and I need some advice.

What corner would you put an initial...and would you do it differently for a design or initial? For instance, would you put an A on the left but a pumpkin on the right? What side would you do a long design? Thanks so much for your help.

I don't think it matters really for me I would put both initial and design together just one hooping

I don't know why but I have always out them on the left, the placemats I made last Christmas the designs were on upper left haven't done many napkins but the ones I've seem were on lower left corner. Someone with the right answer will come along soon. Marian

Napkin monograms go in the corner as to be used with napkin ring holders. No matter where you decide to put it, it will be covered by plate or flatware, so why not make a nice large monogram in the middle. It will be visible while no plate is there. I don't leave my table set for the next meal , but I do leave my place mats on the table. What do others think? Kay

After looking at pictures of place mats with monograms it seems to me that there is no rule. I suppose it would depend on the fabric or the place mat as itself. It is an interesting question and I am curious what others have to say about it.
