Have any of you had any experience with adult scoliosis? My youngest daughter, who is 26, has had moderate scoliosis since adolescence, but we think it has progressed to the point that it is impinging on nerves. She is in excruciating pain that goes from between her shoulders down her legs. She is desperate for pain relief, even wishing for surgery that would implant rods and screws in her spine to straighten and stabilize it. We don't know any one who has had this kind of surgery, so we are scared for her. Do any of you have any experience with scoliosis? It is so hard to see your child have to put all her dreams on hold to deal with this. Thanks in advance.

My cousin's wife answered my question I put to her. She is in her 70's.
I have had scoliosis since I was 13. My spine is fused since that is what they did at the time. I would advise your friend to see a good orthopedic surgeon and see what advice they can give her. Techniques have come a long way. Good luck and blessings to her.

thank you. We are researching constantly about this now since she has gotten worse. There isn't much out there for adult scoliosis.

Hi, I have adult scoliosis and have suffered with it for many years. I have had spinal fusions in my low back, upper back and neck and will someday need additional spinal surgery. I hope that your daughter can see an orthopedic surgeon to have the tests needed to make the best possible decision to help with some of her pain. I'd be happy to talk with her if she would like to write me directly at craphael0609@aol.com. Scoliosis doesn't have to be the end of her dreams. My ortho surgeon has been with me for many years and monitors my spine as it continues to curve. It too impinges on my nerves causing pain in my legs. I take medication that helps with the nerve pain. Please feel free to write. Happy holidays to you and your family.

Thank you so much. She saw the doctor today, and he is going to try radio frequency nerve ablation first, and this is the first time in several years that sounds as though there is treatment plan instead of just pain management. I will pass on your message to her. Thank you again.

My friend was diagnosed with this when she was 10. At that time she was told to put a bar between a door and hang from it daily letting the spine stretch -- I don't know how long, but I imagine as long as she could tolerate. She has continued to do this exercise daily and is in her 70's now. She walks upright and the only clue that she has scoliosis is when you look at her from the back. A slight disfigurement of the spine can be seen. She says she does have daily pain but I don't know how severe it is. She never wanted surgery and apparently this stretching exercise has been helpful in avoiding it.

It may not be too late for your daughter to try this, but please ask her Doctor before she attempts it. I wish her all the best and pray that she can find something to alleviate her pain. God Bless.

thank you. She's tried physical therapy, but not that particular exercise. We are going to a doctor tomorrow who hopefully will refer us to someone who can help her.
