Spent some time at my sister's in NC this summer, and worked with her church quilt group, who make prayer quilts for those in need of some comfort. They are hand tied, and at church service, any who would like to tie a knot and say a prayer are asked to do so. Then when the recipient feels each knot, they know that it came with a prayer for them. Nice. So I thought, great, now I can do what I like to do-create quilts-without having to quilt them.

Carol, whose house they meet at, asked me if I needed any more embroidery thread. Her late husband had The Thread Exchange-in Weaverville NC-as a client, and had all this lovely Robison Anton thread given to them. She doesn't use it, So I came home with it.
I rode home with my nephew instead of having to fly, so I put my clothes in plastic bags and packed my suitcase with material so my daughter didn't see it and say "Oh Mom, more?" It worked. Now to get to work.

Jo- The comment you thought your daughter would say... just means that she thinks you have more material than you can use...now if you had a huge massive collection of thread already, then you would get the comment about bringing in more thread. Just leave the stack of finished quilts where she can see what you create and she will figure out that you put both your materials and your threads to very good use. I think my husband may roll his eyes if he sees another spool of thread come into our house! I absolutely love the Robison Anton threads. When I first got my embroidery machine the store was clearing out the display shelf they had from them and I won so many of their ebay auctions as I could pick them up at the store and not have the shipping cost that others had to pay living out of the area, oh and then I found several sites on line for mainly Madeira thread in the huge cones and bought hundreds of those at an awesome price so...yeah I do need to stop bringing home any thread but with the quality of RA it would have come home with me whether I had to leave other items behind if I could not pack them in plastic bags as you did! Have a great time stitching to your hearts content. Fabric and thread you had to be on cloud 9! Pam

Oh these are some beautiful colors, but we want to see the fabrics too! I can just pretend to feel them-lol You gave me an idea.... Maybe I get just get my niece to drop me at a Cuties, anywhere between Maine and Louisiana. We could go fabric shopping and I could pack my things like you did. That way hubby wouldn't know he had more to burn (read mops post), if he out lives me!-lol
This is the way we do our prayer quilts also. I don't have to do the quilting, just the embroidering. I can't tell you how many we've done. So many in need!

What a lovely story about the quilts.
Enjoyed your story about the clothes in a plastic bag and fabrics in the suitcase. If she did catch on you could have said just checking to see if I learnt anything from you when you were a teenager.

Somebody help me with my Shakespeare. "Oh, the web we weave when first we practice to deceive." Something like that. Enjoy.
