"A stupid question from a stupid man" was the subject line of the email. (Guess who it was from!)

Here is the text of the message.

Further to my stupidity in volunteering to make these syringe-driver bags, I have a question which continues in the theme of my 'Title Subject Matter.'

The template drawn onto pattern paper will produce one complete bag once it id sewn together (hopefully at the appropriate points). Using the template pattern paper on one piece of cloth (folded in two) will provide for two complete bags but my question is.....................................is there a correct and incorrect facing side to each single piece of cloth? In other words, are both faces of the cloth the same? I ask this because as much as I look at both faces of the cloth (even under a magnifying glass) they both look the same to me!! Now, it may be my old age/visionary impairment.............................or, as is more likely, just a stupid question from a stupid man!!!!!!!! You have my permission to post this on Cute.....................if only to give them all a good laugh.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have sent my answer. Perhaps you would like to chip in with yours now.

So very glad to know Dennis is still with us.

I often have problems telling some fabrics right from wrong side especially if it is not a printed fabric, but then some printed fabrics can also be difficult to tell.
Sometimes it just doesn't matter so tell him I said "A weed is only a weed if the gardener says so".
hugs n much love to you both, Meganne

As soon as I read your heading I knew it was from our favourite Cutie of the opposite sex! So glad he has put this question forward. Yes, Dennis there is a Father Christmas! Only kidding Dennis, yes as Jerrilyn has written there is a front and back to material even though you may find it hard to distinguish. But, honestly it really doesn't matter when it comes down to it, I've used both sides when I've done quilts as it's sometimes nice to have a contrast. I hope your little bags go well. Miss you my friend, God bless, love from your Aussie mate downunder! Love Chris

Dear Dennis, We have missed you here! I especially have missed you as I have no one to torment without your smirking face uh... I mean smiling face.
Some times there is a front facing with fabric but not if there is no discernible difference. You should consult your wife or another woman who will be able to check your visual accuracy and offer help (needed or not) with your project.
You are welcome to come for a visit -- even if only long enough to offer a rebuttal.

It has been becoming more common that people will choose whichever side of the material that best meets the need, whether due to the color, texture or sheen. So as you are the one creating these driver bags, then you get to choose how you wish to construct them. If any Sewing Police Specialists question your techniques feel free to ask for their badge number and supervisor, after all I think it was the quilting police who started the trend to use whichever side of the material would serve the purpose in the best possible way.

What a joy to see a posting from our favorite Dennis. I agree with jrob, just stitch them up as is. If you can't tell the difference with a magnifying glass, no one will know the difference. And just a big smile from this Cutie to Dennis.

God bless you Dennis! We surely do miss you and your humor and would count it an honor if you dropped in now and then.
Not a stupid question at all.
Just make them and if questioned, just say, it's exactly as I meant it to be, why do you ask?
There actually is a correct inside and outside and if you have any selvidges still attached, it should guide you. If not, and you can't tell even under a magnifying glass, it doesn't bear fretting over.

I like jrobs answer, no fretting Dennis and if they do question your fabric decisions ask to see the ones they have made
