Hello all....Have any of you ladies/gentlemen ever used iron on diamente motifs?? My friend from the States bought me heaps when she came to visit & I don't want to wreck them. I know you should use a cloth when ironing them on & heat should be on hot but do they stay on the garment or have they fallen off after a couple of wears, how long should you leave the iron on each section to make sure they are really stuck?? Any help appreciated

Hi Irene, long time no talky....
I use Iron on, Swarovski crystals, which I suppose is the same sort of thing although each one is done individually with a dedicated Hot-fix applicator, they can also be done in sheets of patterns etc.
I have added them to all sorts of articles, one of my favourites being a singlet top on which I embroidered a butterfly.
Well that top goes in the washing machine at least once a week in summer and not one crystal has come off in three years.
I usually hold the iron on the crystal for a count of 10 or 20, depending on the fabric underneath as I worry some fabrics can burn or shrivel.
If you decide you like it and you want more crystals I purchase mine from Dawn, who is very reasonable with her prices, sensible postage to Aus and has some great special buys in her newsletter, which comes regularly but is never a nuisance.
I'll add the link below for you. Hugs n roses, Meg

A lot depends on the melting temperature of the glue. If it doesn't get hot enough, it won't melt adequately to keep it stuck on. I know that a lot of patches that can be bought need 350ยบ to stick on permanently. Unfortunatle, irons commonly don't have a designated heat temp at different settings. Further, when manufactured, the highest temp is a range, not an exact temp. So you could buy two irons that are exactly the same but reach different temps at the same setting. I imagine that different glues have different melting points as well. Having said that, I usually leave the iron on them twice as long as they say and I watch the clock to keep track of the time.

My one friend that used them a lot said she had never had to replace any! I don't know about the application.
