Success!! Just had my second try (since the knee surgery in June) at going over the stairs to stitch all afternoon. Knee did great going up and I made a really cute fall sunflowers corduroy shirt with embroidery pretty much everywhere. Coming down the steps was not so great, but I made it and it's not throbbing or swelling yet, so I may get to go again another day! It felt so good, just like coming home from the hospital! On Mondays I used to do 22 flights of stairs - stitching upstairs and washing clothes in the basement. Those days are gone! Now, I walk down the driveway and go in through the garage because those stairs are steep and narrow. By the way, my computer is excellently unzipped and arranged and classified and upgraded and all formats loaded. Couldn't have spent much more time on it unless I started eliminating the less well designed freebies. (Save something for if I have to do the other knee, right?) We had an overcast day so picking colors was a bit difficult and I'm out of practice.

When you came down did you do one step at a time - new knee first? Ask me how I know. Good luck!

Faced the rail and came down good knee first and then crisscross. The way that's been working for me.

good for you ,we to have stairs I had both my knees done at the same time a while ago and found going up stairs Ok but coming down a bit difficult . I think it is because we tend to look right down them to the bottom . I found it easier to come down backwards as you only looking at the stairs close to you ,also hands closer to Bannister if I felt unsteady, Falling up not so far as falling down ,,helped me

Be patient- Healing is slow but worth it. I know, because I had knee surgery a year ago and still very sore. Stairs are my nemesis. Going up or down sideways is the safe way.

I agree. Someone told me she HAD to go with weak foot first going up or down and I told her I couldn't - at all. Everybody's different.

Remember baby steps in everything gets us there in the end.. Before to long you'll be up and down as if nothing happened..

After reading the other messages and your response to them I just had a idea...I think if coming back down the stairs for a meal, means you are done sewing for the day... well... have you thought of packing you a lunch, so you would be able to sew a few more hours? Just a thought, you may also want to keep your leg elevated especially if being up too long or doing too much is getting it to swell or throb. We do not want you having set backs and getting you sewing again will do wonders for your spirit as it sounds like you were on cloud 9, as I fully understand! Congratulations on an awesome day! Pam

Great news! I'm so glad you are starting to feel well enough to begin to stitch again. Now don't overdo it.

Can't overdo on the sewing and the first time I come back down the stairs for a meal, I'm done for the day!
