I do my hexagons by use inn a template and marking them out over a piece of backing cloth. Use a marker pen you can see and use only enough fabric that you can handle around two foot square is fine.
Place the template so the hexagons are side by side. So you get a nice amount. Next place and pin this fabric onto your main choice with both fabrics facing up. So that you can see your markings.
You now have. Choice to make.
If the backing fabric is to be hidden then go right ahead and sew all around the marked hexagons using the guide line and leaving they quarter inch edge. Cut out along the lines. Next make. Small slit in the backing fabric between the top land bottom line but not to big. Then turn each hexagon inside out and press.
If you want to show the backing fabric then leave a small space along the sewing line where you can turn the fabric inside out .
Now the fun part. One the hexagons have been presses you place two side edges touching and zig zag stitch them together. Keep adding and sewing them together in this manner. You may want to make several smaller strips and then sew them all together later .
No freyed edges just make sure you push out the points and press well. This method looks good if a contrasting thread is used for the zigzag stitch. If you are backing the quilt then be sure to pin and tack well
Just another way to do a hexagon quilt
