Anyone tried the Ruler Foot for free motion quilting? There are a few brands out there, but I think this was the first (?)...I also know Janome makes one too...don't think BabyLock or Brother does...at least not yet...looks interesting...anyone??? There are some YouTube videos, but I couldn't get the links to add below..

Here is link to the "home-made" ruler foot that I mentioned below. Worth a try to see if you really want to spend the money for a custom foot. Templates are nice, but a little pricey for me, as I prob wouldn't use them so much. I mostly 'meander stitch' my charity quilts.

Yes, I ordered from westalee a few wks back --the kit that also included the arc template and the ''feathers''. I started practicing the feathers right away--then got side tracked on some other (??) project. I don't think I will be very good at it, but want to try a continuous feather design in a border. I had a little trouble with the foot--even tho it was sent for my brand (Elna 7100), I found the needle sits too close to the side of the foot & my feathers were 'off' when I moved from left to right side. Candidly, I wish I had my $75 back!

Thanks for your input...just thinking outloud...could you adjust your needle position to help with the positioning of the needle in relation to the foot? I am thinking I will go to a local dealer and give it a test drive...

No, needle does not adjust...machine is mid arm just for quilting--only forward, backward. No ZZ stitches..a straight stitch only. I am sure the prob is the foor, tho I gave model #, etc. It is high shank machine, so maybe would work on another DSM....need to drag out of the closet my other 12 to ck out. However, none of those have the large throat space for quilting. I saw a hint and pix on a quilting forum (after buying) where someone glued a couple of washers to an old foot...this allowed the foot to travel the plastic template without the needle being in danger.
