UPDATE-I never know to add it to the end or the first of the post-Anyway, I went to the dr yesterday. Had a good once over, no twice, since she called another doctor/partner in. She heard something and wanted him to listen. They both called it a 'brou-ee' (not sure of spelling) . He heard it too, so today I went for an ultrasound. Probably nothing, but you know they gotta' make money and also prove I have a heart!-Don't any of you concern, worry, I am better I think anyway. You'll know I'm on the mend when I can sew/emb again. It's one of my passions!!!!lol- I may not post much till then, but I will 'lurk' when I can-Love to all-Toogie-Hello Cuties, Just dropping a line to say its that time of year again, for me anyway, canning season. The cucumbers were given to us and I canned 13 quart jars and 4 pints, of bread and butter pickles. Our neighbor down the road ask us to pick his figs Saturday morning. I was already feeling headache, swimmy headed, nauseous during the week and was worse Friday. Saturday morning my husband got up early and started mowing. He never woke me because I felt so sick the day before. I awoke to a phone call. The neighbor had picked 3 gallons of figs and was bringing them to us! I told him I know my husband must have forgotten, because I surely did, and he was out mowing. The neighbor came on over and brought the figs. I was too sick to try to go out and stop hubby on the lawnmower but he saw the neighbor and came up to talk, saying he completely forgot. So...sick as I felt, I canned, couldn't let them spoil. Hubby did pick figs today and I put 7qts and 10 pints up altogether. I did feel better today. I guess it is/was the vertigo I had last year. Felt the same, anyway. I haven't been sewing or embroidering or much pc. Scrolling made me dizzy, emb back and forth I was drunk and head hurt through the eyeballs, so I wasn't worth a whole lot. I sure hope I can say its finally over again, because was a lot better today. Nora's 2nd birthday and Avery's surgery is coming up soon, and I need to be well. I still intend to take photos of daughters new house, kids' rooms, but here is a sneak peak at her kitchen. They prepared dinner for us the other night, wasn't that nice. Anyway, I am SLOWLY LOOKING at the projects everyone is making but my head is still not quiet right, so may or may not be able to post too much just yet. What I have seen is very nice and some of yall have been sick, and still are, with the key fob fever! It must be contagious! Everything looks so nice and I miss being able to use my machines. This has taken me a while to type and I'm starting to feel sick, trying to proof read, so I'll sign off-Love to all of you-Toogie

Toogie I hope you are feeling better. This makes me tired just looking at it. What a great job. My kids want me to make blackberry jam every year which I did. I can not imagine doing that while not feeling good. Hats off to you

I , too have had some sort of stomach bug which has keep me in the bathroom for days. I told my sweetie "At least I am not vomiting". It is hard to stay positive. I not longer put up vegetables using a water bath canning system. I even gave most of my jars away. I could not longer lift the weight off the stove in making pickles. However I kept a few jars as I found a bread and butter refrigerator pickle recipe.that does not have to be processed. I admire you pulling this off not feeling well. Can't wait to see more photos of your daughter's home. The children are all in big homes now. Where my daughter lives the neighborhood homes are big into luxury basements. When my son- in -law saw the basement he wanted the house. Good thing my daughter loved the rest of the house.

lol-good thing indeed!-Don't know when I'll be able to get those photos but I would like you to see too. I'm so glad for them. They really needed this space...No one has brought or offered any more veggies so their gardens may be over or scarce. That's fine with me right now. I would put them up if needed too, before I'd let it ruin though.

Wowzer on the kitchen! I could do some cooking there! I did not do pickles this year, as I still have some, and it wasn't my best batch. I have been experimenting with sweet peppers! I hope you feel better and have a great time getting ready for the party. I also pray Avery surgery goes well.

Oh Toogie, so sorry to hear this, my daughter has not been well either something similar as yours. She has been doing pickles, and peaches and G/ daughter doing all that as well as Blueberry jam. Son n law's gardens are really thriving, tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, okra, squash everything is coming in at one time. I do not can or freeze anymore, I've done my share through the years so let them do it now and I sit back and enjoy the bounty. I love fig preserves. Hope you are well and fit soon/Lillian

I love all the vegetable you named, especially okra and tomatoes. We don't have a garden, but luckily we have friends and family that have surplus and remember us!

Wow! Those pickles look delish and sure wish we had some of those figs!! So sorry to hear that you are under the weather. I was out shopping with a friend last week and picked up a bug ( or perhaps it was the heat ) and have been feeling much the same. Rain and thunderstorms the rest of the week so we won't have to deal with that heat for awhile.
Hugs, Nadyne

The rain will make steam, its been so hot. It's dusty here. We are getting another neighbor and they are doing dirt work for the foundation for their house, so wind blows dust my way. I wish you were near, you could have had these figs and more!

A lot of work and a lovely supply! I hope you'll soon feel much much better!!
I have been making jam and bottled fruit sauce - strawberries, gooseberries, red and black currants from the garden. Slugs and snails were feasting on the cucumbers and only one plant survived to bear fruit, so not much luck there.

Your daughter has an amazing kitchen but, she her mother is the most amazing of all! Noticed your absence and I am sorry to hear that you weren't feeling well. Hope you will be back to your sweet, happy self very soon. Love all of the canning. I recently canned (jarred, lol- I agree with Spendlove's comment- why is it called canning when we are using jars!) homemade salsa using tomatoes from the garden. The heat in GA has wrecked havoc on the garden so the tomatoes aren't the best looking. Sure wish that I had a neighbor offering figs! Praying that you will be back doing all the things you love very soon! You ARE amazing!

Oh Nancy, you're so sweet. Our friend that gave the cucumbers gave us the prettiest tomatoes, but we ate them freshly sliced with our meals. Delicious!

My heart goes out to you. It seems like a lot of us who suffer from vertigo are having issues lately. And your attack seems to be absolutely awful! Kudos to you for being able to can all those cukes and figs while staggering around the kitchen. Your daughter's kitchen is gorgeous. It must be wonderful to be able to have Avery with her while she cooks. Take your time catching up. I know how difficult it is to scroll. As long as we know you are trying to recover, we are understand. My prayers are going up for you. Hang in there, take your medicine and rest when you can.

Hello, wonderwoman! You must a dervish when you aren't sick!
Ah, to have a kitchen that large to work in when I was younger. I don't entertain much anymore, so it's not an issue, but your daughter's is wonderful. I love the flooring.

The flooring is all bricks except in the bedrooms, it is hardwood, best I can remember. I would love to work in this kitchen. One day I want to measure the island and show you all the drawers!!!

I recently jarred salsa using tomatoes, etc. from my garden, lol. I too don't understand using the term canning when we are clearly using jars! But either way, canning or jarring it is worth the effort and so much healthier too!

spendlove by spendlove 14 Jul 2015

Here in England we call it "preserving". I make jams, jellies and pickles, but it is a bit early in the year for that yet.

toogie by toogie 17 Jul 2015

Depending on your location, it is funny how the act is called so many different words, but in the end, we're all doing the same thing .
