I have been admiring the towels with towel toppers that many Cuties have made & I would like to know what size towels have been used ?

Kmart, Big W or Spotlight for hand towels. Tea towels are too thin or too expensive these days.
Spotlight used to carry the handtowel width in rolls and you could buy the length you wanted. Haven't seen that for a while though.

I just cut a dish towel in half. I like a thicker one.

Thank you for your answer but going to Walmart would be a very expensive trip , seeing that I'm in Australia. Some of the tea towels & towels that I've seen here are thinner than the old holey ones in our rag bag.

I use the hand towels that you can find in Kmart. I chop one end off for the topper which is either made from fabric or I crochet it on. Then add a cute embroidery in one bottom corner. I used to use tea towels halves, but they are too thin these days. from another Aussie

When deciding what size towel to use you must also take into consideration the size/width of the topper itself. Larger/wider toppers can accommodate larger towels.

Thank you.The thickness of the towel used would be a deciding factor on the width too.

I have used half tea towels, hand towels and microfiber cleaning type. I did purchase some long hand towels on DGate from china thin but very absorbent cloths it depends on where your going to or what your going use it for.

Last week I bought a pr large of tea towels from Aldi ,60cm x 90cm ,washed them in cold water ,line dried & found that they had shrunk in different directions. They were to be embroidered to go in a Christmas present.

There have been all different sizes used. One 0f the links listed that I viewed used the hand towel cut in half and another option was a bath towel 27X50 cut in fourths. They then covered the raw edges with bias edging. I am also sure you could use about any sized towel or even purchase towel yardage from the fabric store to create what you want whether using the bunny ear ties for the refrigerator style or the button or snap version to hang on a oven door or other handle, just adapt the pleat or gathers to fit your desired size and shape of towel topper. The advantage of the purchased towel is you then can use the decorative fringe for the bottom edge detail. Hope you are able to post your pictures when you are finished to show us what you have been creating. Pam

Thank you for your advice. While looking for some good quality large hand towels ,I spotted some nice looking small bath towels ,which I thought would be suitable cut in half but I wasn't sure about the width.

I think if the quality, style and price of the towels was what you were looking for, then I would just adapt the towel topper to work with those smaller bath towels. There are so many different styles. It is very easy to adapt the topper pattern to either make it smaller or larger to each person's situation or to work with the towel you have on hand for the project. Over the years I have seen people who needed to alter the towel topper, the most drastic I have seen, was a topper to fit over an extremely small handle of about 3" and they just folded or pleated the towel down to the size that met the limited space available for their towel to hang, it worked out great for them and fit to hang over the tiny handle they had on the only drawer in their whole kitchen. Good Luck, Pam
