Shoes for Avery- These are like the shoes I made for Nora in Projects, and also posted an earlier pair here, in Sewing. Avery is nine years old and I had to enlarge to fit her. Because one foot is smaller I increased @ 120% and the larger one is 130%... Someone was asking how I did the insole/sole. I followed all the directions in this link but with a few personal adjustments. After making the first pair, I found they needed to hug the heel a little better,so I made a casing part way, then inserted a piece of elastic. See my chalk marks below the strap and on the other side? ( I know its hard to see on this dark color. It was also a bad color for me to see to sew.) That is where I made a separate stitching line, the width of the 1/4 in elastic, below the stitching around the top edge. Now the sole- I ironed Pellon 809 to the lining sole,(also on the strap and one U shape.) I then placed and pinned two layers of fleece, to give a little cushion, and because I have a huge roll of this. I then quilted in a grid, no marking, because it doesn't have to be exact. Now place this quilted piece on the smooth side of your giffy grip. Pin in center and a lot around because the grip wants to twist as you sew around. Now re-pin all that, to your tear-a-way, because the bumpy grip won't slide for you to sew. I slowly stitch a basting stitch around the outer edge,as close to the cut edge as possible, without distorting it. After basting, trim ONLY the giffy grip as close to your sole edge, without cutting your tearaway. Now I zigzagged the outer edge all the way around, letting it whip off the edge, to enclose all the edges together. This stitching will be in your seam allowance and won't show once the shoe is complete.See bottom of shoe photo.- #8 was first pair with no elastic and flower added to strap # 9 & 10 are the next 2 pair made off the 12-18 month size. This is what I did including all the directions in this link. I hope this is helpful to those interested. If I can help further, just ask-Toogie

Hi Lorraine, the first ones didn't have elastic around the heel. Noras heel must be smaller, so the elastic helped, to hug it to her heel. Thanks for looking.-Toogie

Awe, how sweet. These look wonderful. Now both your grand-girls have grandma's special shoes. Thanks for sharing how you made the soles. Good job enlarging the pattern. You're a truly priceless grandma.

I just had to trace her feet, then enlarge till I got the right size. Luckily first try fit one of them so next adjustment was easy too.

I also showed a photo of the pellon and grip I used in Project reversible dress.

You're welcome and I sure hope laffma1 sees this post, as she was asking how I did the sole.

What a cute outfit and with matching shoes too! Avery will look so cute with her new shoes too. How is she doing? I know you have been waiting on an appointment for her.

Hi Karen,Avery's appointments keep getting rescheduled, it is so frustrating . Her mom actually made it to the dr's office this time and they told her then, he had an emergency. Office said they were just in the process of calling all his appointments for the day. I had her Tuesday and Wednesday and she was able to hold both her feedings. I just don't know....Thanks for asking and about this outfit. Nora likes this side of the reversible dress best. She said the ice cream feels like her 'Tag".
