Quilting question. I am not a quilter, but I am giving it a try. I am recycling my Blackies shirts and pants into 3 lap quilts for his 3 daughters to be received on Fathers Day. All fabric used will be from something he has worn including the fleece for the backing. Squares are cut and sewn (thank you walking foot). Squares are a mixture of cotton, twill, polyester, denim. All seams I serged. My question is, what kind of batting should I use? I don't want a thick batting.

Just wondering if you were able to reach your target date with the memory quilt. I'm sure they will be cherished!

If you are using fleece for the backing I wouldn't use any batting.
Great job on the quilt. Happy Stitching Brenda Lea

I think I would just consider using a sheet, or plain fabric as batting. You really don't need much, but one layer would make it a bit nicer.

Thank you, l like that idea! Now I need to check out our bed sheets. I want to use only fabric he had touched or used.

Beautiful quilts in memory of Blackie, I know his daughters will cherish them. I did a memory quilt for my Dad but I used a very light weight cotton batting in it. It's up to you though what you do Suzanna, so I wish you all the best with it. Love Chris

Suzanna, I know you must miss Blackie terribly and this is such a beautiful item for you to give them. .. I agree if you use a fleece backing you shouldn't need batting, but then I don't consider myself a quilter. Good luck with getting them all done in time- Toogie

Yes still miss him so so much. I could not get rid of the clothes so this has been my plan for some time. They will be done by the 10th. His daughters will be so surprised! I have enough squares to do another, I think for ME! I am sure no batting. Thank you Toogie, hugs, Suzanna

If you are going to use fleece on the back you really don't have to have any batting. If you really need batting (due to thick seams from denim, etc.) try Warm and Natural. It's very thin, yet very warm and has a wonderful hand to make quilting easier.
