This is a sample I did of an Elvis design I found for free somewhere(before I kept track), and a name I sewed on some antique quilt lining. I am a very thrifty person. the sample was sewn on a old bed sheet my mom was gonna throw out and I snatched. I also purchase old sheets from thrift stores. Sometimes you can get them for less than $2.00 a set and then I bring them home and cut them up into squares to sew out samples. Some of the older sheet sets are super good quality and I use them to sew finished designs on. I also cut up old linen table cloths. You can get them cheap and if there is a hole or stain throw that part away. The other one, I got an old suit for 50 cents and used the material to make something but saved the lining. It just so happened the lining matched a cute little purse I found at gardenridge for $2.00 so I sewed out my name and then I attached it to the side of the bag using some spray glue my mom had. Presto magic, I have a personal purse with little to no money that other people would spend alot on. Sometimes I leave the tags on to prove to my friends that I really do find bargains! Just cause life is cheap doesn't mean it isn't extravagant! O the elvis face I also sewed on a thrifty bag found at goodwill (cost$1.23) for my son's teacher. I had orders for 4 more from other teachers. I happily obliged and sold them for $15.oo each!!

Nicely done! I too like to recycle. I buy clothes, drapes, and bedding etc. at garage sales when they have deals like fill a bag for $3.00 and use the material for my projects. You can get some great material that way for very cheap! Once in a while I find some clothing that is like new that I can embroider on too!

What a great idea, we use preloved mattress protectors, soaked in nappy san then washed, they make great linings for quilts.
