It's just a preference of mine, but it isn't set in stone anywhere. Back in the 90's, when I first began, I looked at purchased items with embroidery and copied that. You are the fiber artist, so it is at your discretion where you put it.

2305Well, I've been doing applique for years and years and you've done an exceptional job on the Star. I love the little chain stitch for the mouth, did you do that by hand? What sort of topping did you use - on towels I use a Glad Go-between or sometimes WSS (Water Soluble solvy the fibrous form not the plastic). I didnt do the chain stitch by hand...just part of the design!
For the topping I used sulky solvy...the light plastic kind!
