I've been playing with this design for a couple of weeks, adding fractional stitches and "french knots" until I liked the look of it. The basic design is two poppies which can be built up into a border (with or without mirroring) or made into a square like this one. I enlarged the design by about 10% because I wanted to stitch it in cotton thread. I've just added a red fabric border and may well continue doing this to make a cushion cover.

There are lots of beautiful wild flowers around at the moment for inspiration. Wild roses and bindweed are next on my list.

Very pretty poppies! I'm looking forward to your bindweed - is that the same as morning glory or is the latter the blue variety?

They are similar - bindweed is pink.
